I’ve always been a big fan of guitarist Richard Smith with his immense talent together with a good slice of humility. This clip shows his great sense of humour playing Happy Blues. If you’ve not seen it before, I hope you enjoy …..
Really enjoyed that Richard. Thanks for posting it.
great video, love his unrelenting thumb picking, it carries the whole piece. Brian’s got lots of lessons that stress that thumb style. thanks Richard
I’ve seen him before, and he totally blows me away with how easy he makes it look. His bag of licks must be immense.
And one interesting thing I saw in the description under the Youtube video: It was posted by the Tampa Bay Finger Style Players Club. Who knew there was such a thing? And what a good idea!
Nice one, Richard, thanks for posting it. I especially like when he slides from E to B, dragging his hand all the way up.
Was he the child prodigy?
Yes Don, that’s Richard, played with Chet Atkins when he was 11 years old. This clip is quite old and has suffered greatly from the digitising/copying etc etc. It must have been daunting for such a young lad.
Great post Richard. Another amazing player you’ve introduced me to. Like Tommy Emmanuel, you just shake your head and say, wow!
