Hi all, I’m learning Greensleeves and trying to understand it using what we’re learning in AM about scales and modes. In the score I’m following, the arrangement follows these chords:
Part 1
——Am G/B C G/B Em
Am F EmAm G/B C G/B Em
Am E AmPart 2
——C G/B Em
Am F EmC G/B Em
Am E AmSo, to me these chords *almost* fit the A minor scale, which are the same chords as in C major:
C Dm Em F G Am Bdim C
*BUT* there are places where a E major chord is played instead of E minor. And it sounds great.
My question is, is there any explanation for this? Are we switching keys here? Or is it just that it sounds cool and that’s all there is to it?
