If you’re working on EP327 and would like some ideas for extending the lesson a bit, have a listen to Ronnie Earl’s “Blues for Dr Donna”. Ronnie is said by many to be the best slow blues guitarist of all time, and this song is in the same key and roughly the same tempo as EP327. See if you can play along with it and figure out how he’s doing some of his licks.
Unfortunately Ronnie is a very low-tech camera shy guy, so there is very little about him on Youtube. I have bought some of his albums on the iTunes Store, but it would be nice to see what he’s actually doing. One technique he uses a lot (by his own admission) is to snap the open E string to make a loud pop. He pinches it and pulls it upward and lets it go. He jokingly says he does this every so often to wake up the audience.
