Decided to go with the first lesson I came across from ActiveMelody on Youtube and it’s turned into a bit of a bastardised combination of lessons 65 and 66. Some silly mistakes (bonus points for spotting me chastising myself internally 😀 ) , but here’s my ‘first take’, warts n all!

Brendan many congratulations for a first post that was really great. You have a nice sense of the rhythm in this one and even where you fumbled a tad you picked it right back up and on you went unruffled.. well done you’ve got a natural rhythm in your playing. It wont be long before your are really thrashing that box. I look forward to more posts. JohnStrat
PS The volume was a little lite on the recording but came through OK when I turned it up a bit but maybe you could get the input up a little next time otherwise nicely recorded.

Thanks very much John, appreciate the feedback! This style of playing is very new to me, always just played basic rock rythym and hid my mistakes with distortion so it’s a bit harder to hid the slip ups – all part of the game – we live and learn eh!
An interface for recording will be my next purchase I think – for now it’s just recording through the webcam on my laptop so the quality will improve hopefully over the next few weeks.

Not much going wrong there that a few Guinness wont cure lad… Nice 1st recording, no problems here with the sound though I do have mine cranked up so the neighbours can hear too…bless em.

Great first recording post and nice playing indeed. Cool guitar as well. What is it? (I’m always asking people this but I love guitars and am always curious about them).

Great first post, Brendan. I attempted these two lessons as my first post also — great minds think alike. You did a terrific job and your guitar has beautiful tone. I like your comment about it being hard to hide slip ups without distortion. I never played any acoustic until I joined Active Melody. I have found that spending time on the acoustic really improves playing precision and finger strength. I look forward to hearing more from you.

Hey Brendan, that sounds really good, it would have sounded really good even if it weren’t your first post. I look forward to hearing your next posts.

Very well done, by anybody’s standard. Brian has often pointed out that as long as you keep the rhythm going, most people won’t even notice if you’ve made a mistake in the fingering. And you did a first class job of keeping the rhythm going. But I agree with the other comments: It’s time to upgrade your recording studio. Bryce recommended a Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 audio interface to me, so I bought one and have been really happy with it. I’d say don’t waste your money on an iRig or Apogee Jam, because pretty soon you’ll want something better. Also, with the 2i2 you get a free copy of Cubase, in case you don’t have a DAW.

Really smooth and pleasing to listen to, Brendan. You seem to be bringing some skills here. I’m curious about the guitar, also. It seems to have a disproportionately large lower half for a parlour. Never quite seen one like that before.

Brendan,
That was a true pleasure true pleasure to listen to! My foot never stopped tapping.
Very, very skillful rendition of EP65 and 66. You have a quality to your playing that sounds effortless! Yet, the notes and riffs are just perfectly executed.
Wonderful post! Congratulations on this being your first one! I look forward t hearing a lot more of your music.

Hey Brendan, this is really good! You have a nice touch and great phrasing. Definitely some mojo going on here, which can’t be taught – it’s something you just have in your DNA. Thanks for sharing!

Brenban, great decision of Your skills here to develop. I enjoyed Your guitar playing really. By the way, if You start on this level, I can well imagine what we may hear in the next time. Thumbs up, and a lot of fun here!

Play guitar just like you live; don't get bogged down in theory, it's just a tool without feeling.

Thanks all – I’m genuinely blown away by all the positive comments, really didn’t expect it! I always find it hard to gauge the level of my playing as I’m generally happy to play at home and in (very) occasional get togethers with some friends which are more about playing some simple sing-along songs.
An interface for recording is definitely on my list – I promised the bosslady that there’d be no more purchases this year as I developed a serious case of guitar acquisition syndrome, so January 1st, I’m going shopping 😀
For those who asked about my guitar – it’s my latest purchase – a Framus SVE Legacy series bought from Thomann in Germany at a discount of almost 50% – a great bargain and a beautiful guitar to play – haven’t been able to put it down since it arrived 2 weeks ago.
