It’s true. A proper scientific study by Fender has revealed that half of all guitar purchases these days are by women.
If this is the case, where are they learning to play? And why aren’t there more women members in ActiveMelody? This question has been raised here on the forum several times in past years. The best answer I’ve heard is that younger women (the focus of Fender’s study) have never listened to blues music, and don’t realize that blues guitar provides the foundation for many other genres of guitar music. My guess is they pick a song by someone like Ed Sheehan, then look on Youtube for tutorials on how to play it. My guess is they will develop a repertoire of songs without knowing why they are putting their fingers at some particular place on the fretboard. Most people I know who play the guitar approach it in that way.
