Hi everyone,
Well… my submission is very short but that’s all I could manage for this month’s challenge. Needless to say, I am new to phrasing. In fact, the process of learning EP219 has taken my fingertip calluses to a whole new level but still, playing for more than a minute at a time was simply too painful, haha! 😀🎸JoLa

Short and to the point but none the less very good in my opinion, each lesson or challenge we all grow a little in our ability to play and you are coming along very well indeed.

Hi, JoLa! You did it! Very nice to see you playing again! Your sound is pretty cool and very nice strat b.t.w.

A minute is all its needs to show your talents. Great tone on that, and I liked the downward slides at the ends of the licks.

6 notes can be brought well in 1 minute. You showed it. Everything in a minute in a nutshell. Well done.
Play guitar just like you live; don't get bogged down in theory, it's just a tool without feeling.

I agree with the others, one minute was all you needed. Most people would find the timing to be the challenge here, yours was perfect Jola!

JoLa,
Loved the tone with the extra delay to it and right on time. That was a winner in my book! it sounded great!
Is that a new Strat? Looks pretty.
All the best,

Thanks, Tim!
This MiM strat is new to my collection, but it’s almost “vintage” being from 1998/99. Not totally sure of its full authenticity but it was cheap so it’s ok. It does its job 😉🎸JoLa

Cześć Jola,
That was really great. I am new to phrasing too, so this challenge is a real challenge for me too 🙂
Btw. where have you got your Active Melody challenge t-shirt? I remember you playing in the t-shirt some time ago.
Nevertheless that was great.Slawek

Ditto, JoLa. Spot on. Timing perfect, and bends will only get easier the more you practice. Your guitar needed a work-out anyway.
Larry
P.S. I hope you are using light gauge strings for this kind of stuff.-

Thanks, Larry!
Good point about the string gauge but yes, I’m using regular .10-.46 Slinky’s.🎸JoLa

I agree with all of the above. Nicely played and I thought your pick attack gave it a real nice tone. Very good.

One minute can be very rewarding, Jola. I liked it a lot. You have a very good sense for timing and I think that’s the most important ingredient for tasteful phrasing. If this lesson gives you callouses on your fingertips, I wonder if perhaps the string action is too high, the string gauge is too thick or if you press the strings down too hard. Just wondering, because you never mentioned such difficulties in your earlier submissions.

Jola very impressed, btw gorgeous tone on the strat!,, I think when you mean stress, it is the same with anything..if we desire to make a difference we sink in and learn…in this yours and mine alike..we just need to watch more “THE BB KING”and than simply practice!! Our sync is strong to apply what we endeavor..Me I am a jack somewhat of everything master of none but my time here/elsewhere is having fun! Enjoyed your February showcase! enjoy!

Great job on this one, good use of patience as you let the backing track move landing the notes where they needed to be.
Well done

Hi Jola.
Well played, and good idea to use some echo/delay.
By the way I’ve got calluses too even using 0.09 gauge.rgds

Well done Jola. Your strat has great tone and despite your ‘callous’ complaint, you played with feeling and sensitivity :~)
You show your improvements well. Keep it up.Richard

Very nice, Jola. And if you think your fingertips are hurting, check out my friend Skyla Burrell’s:

She plays hard driving blues rock, and is on the road touring virtually non-stop.

Nicely done, Jola. I was impressed with your blues grip with the thumb high over the fretboard, quite a change from your classical training.

John,
Yes, thanks for noticing! My classical grip would do me no good trying to play the blues licks so I have to keep retraining myself with a more ergonomic grip, and that was an example.🎸JoLa
