A day or so early with my submission but I’m sure no one will mind, My initial plan for this was to learn it note for note and play it like Brian, but as I cant play like Brian I had to alter that withing the first couple of days.
So this turned into a 4 min jam session which I played and recorded every night for the 1st 14 nights of the month of feb and then put it away until tonight to record my final final take..Played on my Squier SE strat and recorded direct to Reaper through Focusrite.
So here it is, I think it should be called “Cold pint of Guinness” even though we all know it as EP160(in whichever key you have chosen)..
So here it is, it is what it is and once again I am where I am with my playing....Billy..

Hey Early Bird .. eh, Billy. That was pretty darn good! I am seriously impressed and wonder why you don’t post more often. You obviously have that Reaper quite well under control – and your guitar too! Well done and a guiness to that 🙂

This is great Billy, I don’t know why you’re so down on yourself. Like you say .. it is what it is …. Bloody Good!
I think this is EP219 and the jamtracks are from EP160.

Hey Trem
I honestly don’t get the time to practise more, what with work and looking after my old mom then most of my time is taken up, I do get to read and post on the forum quite a lot but that is mainly during working hours when things are slow and I can log in on my phone.. thank you very much for being impressed, that is a very high accolade in my book..This is great Billy, I don’t know why you’re so down on yourself. MartynHey Martyn,
Thank you for the compliment, “Bloody Good” is a great endorsement. I’m not down on myself, tbh I am being realistic if you think of where I was just a year or more back and frustrated because I wasn’t progressing now I am happy to progress little and enjoy myself a lot and that is what I mean by saying “it is what it is and I am where I am”, good title for a blues number eh?...Billy..

I agree with the others, this was good. You played nearly 5 minutes straight without a mistake which is impressive in it’s own right. Your playing just continues to get better and that’s what it’s all about. I liked your use and execution of string bending. While this lesson seems simple, the 6 note restriction makes phrasing a challenge. Good job. I think you earned that pint!

Billy,
Is that really you? That’s how you do it! You have really progressed so I’m going to hoist a Guinness in your honor! ( need to go to the store and get a few…..)
I like the way you repeated some notes over and over and then the pauses in between…….aye Laddie….you got it going on…..
Congrats!

Thanks Richard, I just treated it as a jam and made up stuff as I went along. I’ll save having the pint for Saturday night, Its my day off Sunday and I wont have to worry about having 2 or possibly 3…

TimAye, tis I Tim. Not really much of a variation someone of my playing level can have with 4 notes and 2 bends, I think I possibly crammed too much in at some points but hopefully I succeeded in the Phrasing and Vibrato aspects of the challenge..
Thanks man...Billy..

Hey Billy, nice going here. As Richard points out nearly 5 mins with zero errors. I like the way you leave plenty of space between. Your a better player than you realize. All I have is a “Black and Tan”?? Good enough? Haha

Hey Billy – I can only endorse Martyn’s comment – that was ‘bloody good’ mate. Definitely earned a Guinness or three.

After reading everyone’s comments, I decided to have a Guinness first, then listen to your post. It sounded really great, like it was designed to be consumed with Guinness.

Sounds good to me. Yes, the temptation of all guitarists is to cram too much in. But for most of this, you let things nicely, and there is a significant amount of it wHere it feels like singing.

Well done Billy. Beautiful singing sound as lead guitar. Thumbs up.
Play guitar just like you live; don't get bogged down in theory, it's just a tool without feeling.

Thank you all for the very kind comments folks, “like it was designed to be consumed with Guinness” sounds so perverted that it should be on a T-shirt..

That sounded great, Billy, you really connected with the rhythm on the backing track and varied the phrases enough to keep it interesting. All of your concerns seem to have slipped away. You put in the time and produced a nice piece of music.

Hi.
Is not a must copy 100% Brian. You’ve got the idea and you played ok.Well done, I’m still thinking is too difficult to stay just on 4notes.

Great way to nail this. It is hard to stay within the 6 notes given. You have done an admiral job. good feel and emotion in your playing.

I agree with Kevin, you should post more often as you obviously can play. Plus Billy, you have all those new guitar to play you are storing for your brother. 🙂 Keep up the good work bud!

Nice one Billy,
I would like yo encourage you to record a video next time, so we can see your fingers dancing on the fretboard and your guitar. It’s actually a lot of fun.
You’ve got a nice tone.

Thanks Bryce, who can tell maybe in the nearish future I will be able to practice and showcase more often.I would love to use Matts guitars, but i keep thinking back to when i was a kid and the fights it caused when any of his things got damaged..There are 2 Marshall valve amps here too which would be a hoot to crank up..hahaha

Cheers Scott,
Sounds like near every afternoon here in Scotland, with the rain not with the Guinness. I’ve just gone back and listened to my recording, I played way too much and crammed notes in which should have been left out. Maybe we should just record things and then leave them like that. Thanks again to everyone who took the time to listen and comment, It is nice to be in the company of positive people.
