This is the worst time of year for humans in New Zealand. Too much rain, wind, and not nearly warm enough. So lots of Kiwis bail out and go somewhere warm for a few weeks or months. This year we chose Hawaii. We stayed a couple of days in Honolulu (where I used to live in olden days), then off to Kaua’i for 10 days, then off to Maui for 10 days. Then back to Honolulu. All told, we’re gone for a month. We arrive back in NZ in about a week.
I couldn’t bring a guitar, but I brought my blues harmonica. I’ve had lots of spare time to practice it, and to my surprise, I can tell I’ve gotten better at it. I’ve got more control over bending notes, and I’m starting to develop some of my own standard licks. My main online teacher, JP Allen, recommends practicing for just a few minutes several times a day, and that works well for me. Any blues guitarist should consider trying it.
