SLIGHTLY OUT OF TUNE. THE BACKING TRACK IS SHARP (A=440.5), AND I’D ALREADY RECORDED SOME STUFF. I PUT THE BACKING TRACK INTO AUDACITY AND LOWERED THE PITCH, BUT STILL COULDN’T GET IT RIGHT ON.
LOVE THE ALLMANS. I ADDED SOME OF MY OWN IDEAS. IF YOU PLAY WITH THE BACKING TRACK, TUNE TO THE TRACK, AND NOT YOUR TUNER. I KEPT CHECKING MY TUNER BECAUSE THINGS SOUNDED OFF, AND MY TUNING WAS FINE. ALL THE OTHER AM TRACKS I’VE PLAYED HAVE BEEN FINE AS FAR AS BEING IN TUNE.

Sounding good, Ralphie. You’re being very musically productive these days. Love the middle section.

Thanks John, It’s great to be retired and have time to play more. Work was such an inconvenience.

Very nice indeed Ralph. Loved the tight coordination between two guitars on this – at least, that is what I think you were doing 😉.
One interesting little fact I learned is the notion of perfect pitch is a relatively modern phenomenon- sorry, can’t tell you how recent. I the distant pass musicians just tuned to each other and “guessed” the pitch.

Thanks Geoff, I did play two guitar parts for the harmonies, which is one of the elements of the Dickie Betts/Allman Brothers sound which I love so much.
I remember the days of tuning with a pitch pipe. Remember those? People have different sensitivities to discerning differences in pitch. There is no “perfection” in tuning, especially on a guitar. With guitar tuning “close enough” usually works.
Thanks for your comments Geoff,
Ralph

Firstly great vibe here Ralph and awesome rendition of one of Brian’s classics. Secondly, I always thought the tuning on this backing track was slightly off so thanks for your explanation and recording tip. All the best! 😎🎸😎

Great adaptation, Ralph. I hear a bit of “Jessica” with those harmonized guitars. Loved that song. Dickey’s writing and guitar was fabulous but Chuck Leavell’s piano solo is even better.

Thank You James…you’re right about Chuck Leavell’s playing. Amazing piano player. One of my favorite solos by him is on the Clapton Unplugged version of “Old Love”. So good.
