I am having quite the time trying to determine what Brian was on about saying “Play the ami scale on the 5th fret and then play the major 3 frets down. The Ami pent scale based on the E shape on the 5th fret doesn’t have a c# in it along with the other sharps in the key of A.
I am hung up on the fact that Ami is the relative minor of the key of C, no sharps and no flats. So how can that be in the key of A major when you drop down 3 frets???
I would say if I am playing the G major Pent then I would be using the Emi pent as a companion scale….. Where am I going wrong, it just doesn’t sound right. Thanks
Chris
