Hi All,
I continue to be a sucker for Brian’s melancholic, soulful blues pieces. Aim is to start mixing it up and trying something different next post. Hope everyone is well.
All the best!

Garry,
Expertly played – that was just a Great performance and you have the tone I am looking for. What model Gretsch guitar are you playing?

Hi Clarke. Thanks for your comment. This is a recent purchase. Due to lockdown I’d never bought a guitar online before but here in Melbourne Australia we’ve been in a hard lockdown for months so I took the plunge. It’s a Gretsch G5410T Matte Black Hollow Body Rat Rod. It was $1349 Australian so pretty sure that’s somewhere under $1000 American. It’s light and beautiful to play for a bottom range Gretsch. I do run it through a virtual Brownface Amp in GarageBand. Thanks again and all the best!

Every single tone pitch perfect, very souful playing. Love that lesson.

Nicely played Garry, a good amount of thoughtful balance among the slides and double-stops and if you could package that guitar tone, you could sell it.

Excellent rendition Garry! This is also one my preferred recent lessons, and is the next to study on my list! In my opinion your playing is really at a very good level (phrasing, bendings, timing). I don’t want to exaggerate but, if I close my eyes, it sounds to me almost like Brian was playing it.

Thanks Ambar. I think the secret is practising each seperate single line melody/lick slowly many times focusing on emphasising a certain note or notes and using appropriate dynamics depending on the structure of the piece. Looking forward to your take, I’m sure you’ll do a great job. All the best!

Very slick playing there Garry that sounded about as good as anyone could get it nothing at all about it I’d change. Well done.
Best,
Liam.

I’ll echo what everyone else has said here already, Garry–that was great!
The lockdown has been very hard for all in Melbourne but I’m glad that you’ve been able to spend some time playing that beautiful guitar. I’ve got a 5420T in traditional Gretsch orange that I received through the mail a few years ago from The Guitar Lounge in Sydney.
No doubt the recent lifting of some of the significant restrictions will be well received.
Cheers,

Hi Garry.
I see you’r also posting “once per week” like I did just this past month. I could hear that you really master the lessons, good timing, clean and confident. Unlukely, I think I could not continue on this basis (one per week + monthly challenge), this has been streessing for me, I have also to work and from time to time travel outside, so… no time. Also, I think I take more profit making the 2nd loop, this way, your really UNDERSTAND not just copy… but this cost me a lot of time.
So, probably for December I would change to montly + 1 or maybe 2 jobs… have to decide.Nice to see that someone, at the other side of planet, take similar a similar path.
BTW … your post are really on top 10. (and this is everytime harder to achieve !!!!thanks for sharing

Outstanding playing, Gary. Sounds fantastic! Couldn’t believe how smooth that alternate picking lick at 0:54 was. Great feeling and dynamics throughout.

Great to see another Gretsch in the AM community and it’s another beauty in both looks and tone. Very articulate and clean playing particularly over that fast lick around 54secs. I’m trying to learn that one at the moment too, tricky!
Good to hear that the lockdown is easing down in Melbourne. Hopefully those borders will be open soon too.
