Maybe you should lay off the old finger push ups for while! What’s the guitar model?

Just nicely run in then in guitar terms
I have to say I’m brutal with mine and I’ve not had one pop in years, modern strings from the major brands seem a lot more durable than they used to be.
At one stage you used to get a spare E string from some companies in your packetI’ve also gone up a gauage and use d’addario 10’s & 11’s only my 8 & 9 days are long gone

Yes, I also think to get some new 10 gauge phosphor bronze high E and B. Don’t know if I can get them separately though.

Isreal I use 10-46 Elixir Nanoweb but also Ernie Ball have a high end variety Paradigm. These are new technology Strings and have greatly improved tensile strength partly by improved surface finish and general performance. They outlast ordinary varieties and seem to be good for approaching 6 months and still hold tone. I have not broken an Elixir nanoweb yet. Maybe thats an answer for you.
Happy Christmas

I would check the saddle for burrs and grooves, there is no way you should be snapping strings if they are not old, worn, or defective.

It’s an old guitar and it was an old string, although I snapped strings on that guitar before, even without much bending. Perhaps I need to check the saddle, as you suggest. My plan, anyway, is to buy a new electric. I laid eyes on a few $700-$900 PRS guitars…

That’s an expensive fix..hahaha, if it’s snapping strings on a regular basis and with it being a vintage guitar then I’m sure you have something worn that’s cutting the strings,
Happy hunting down your PRS, once you get GAS it’s like an unscrathable itch....Billy..

Definitely what Billy suggested.you best file that saddle bridge

I don’t think the saddle bridge in this case was the cause because the string in the picture did not appear to separate any where near the bridge which it surely would if it was being eroded or point loaded by a duff bridge. if they are old strings it may well be micro corrosion that led to a weak spot focusing stress. You can examine the bearing parts very easily and unless they are badly worn or damaged they should be OK a bit of a metal polish would not do any harm.
I would try a new set of decent strings such as the Elixir Nanowebs Id be surprised if you don’t like them, once you tune them they hardly drift and the old idea of stretching strings etc is just about out of the window they are a whole new game and very stable.

There’s a point here. It’s an old guitar anyways, I wouldn’t invest in fixing it.

JohnStratD’addario are already on the way, and I love the Ernie Ball phosphor bronze on my acoustic, but I should check Elixir sometime. Thanks.

Old guitars are always worth investing a little time and maintenance in.

My GAS says OK, but only AFTER buying a new gear 🙂

I know Dario are highly regarded although I have hardly ever used them. I too like the Ernie Ball Earthwoods on acoustic. I always used Ernie regular Slinky on my Strat until
I changed a year back to the Elixirs. I have a D45 on its way and I shall try both. The Martin and Elixir acoustic on it in the next while.
Elixir do offer several grades of their strings and it may be worth your while checking out the differences. I tried the Opto webs and Ernie ball paradigms but came back to the nano webs. I don’t see myself switching from them in the near future. They are also on my Gibson Es347.
