Not sure if this is advice or a question, but it’s good to use the little finger in playing. Clapton doesn’t use it a whole lot but Robben Ford uses it a lot. He bends with it but supports it with his ring finger. I know some people who bend with their middle finger rather than their index finger so they can dampen the strings with their index finger laid across the strings behind it. I do this at times. I also find more control in my bends if I use forearm rotation with the finger joints relatively locked, rather than relying on finger strength. It’s the same motion I use for vibrato.
As for tab errors; I view them as an invitation to play it any way I want to.
I was learning China Grove the other day, it’s a friends favorite song. It has a very short lead break and isn’t hard to learn. There are certain phrases that are iconic to the song. I learn those, but the rest I just play in the appropriate scale the way I want. It’s a little different every time.
That’s my approach to most every song.
It’s a way to make the song your own and find your own voice.
So tab errors are an opportunity to do things your own way.
Your advice to use other fingers in support of a bend is a good one John.
Sorry for the long winded reply. Good luck with 276. It’s a valuable lesson. -

Hi john b, do us premium members a favor, play something so we (maybe me if you want) can see what you inquire here, you seem to post a lot of broad questions and almost daily,, my take it gets boring reading anything you post because our community participants can’t understand where you are at on guitar,,some if not most of your inquiring is irrelevant unless you are either more specific or perhaps better yet, play something so we can help you! otherwise , we should have an ignore feature here for john b because it seems to be what i’ve been reading since your first post here on Active melody..absolutely nothingwe can do for you unless we understand what you are asking and every time you post an inquiry ,it is really too vague dude! hope i helped you lol

I am just saying, we can’t contribute to your vague questions ,, some maybe most of them you posted are so easy to answer for yourself premium/beginner or whatever,, I guess what i’m trying to say is, you should walk the talk, showplay or soundcloud your problem,, johnb you always seem to post a problem and doubt most know how to answer it.lol.. i can’t do this or that or folks i found something wrong with one of the lessons! ..you know what I mean..try to ask relevant questions or yeah I’ll just ignore you as you suggested, no biggie

bend what ever finger works best for you,, i don’t use every finger Brian is showing and try to learn to read the tab bends,, they are only indicators, the bends just like trills vibrato.., first before you ask anymore questions and answer yourself before a reply.. try being more specific otherwise you lose us john b.. I could ask you how many fingers you have on each of your two hands I’m only assuming you have two hands because you said your were taught to use all fingers? ..know what I mean? lol anyway try being more specific or just send a recording for the community to see or listen so we can offer you a bit of advice.. I just went through the lesson,,first time tonight,,it is an easy lesson and think i now understand your question.. measures 6-7 bends which finger.. my advice is try all the fingers you are use to using,, try to remember to use all fingers wherever and what works best,, never bend with the pinky,,nobody does even for vibrato,,ring finger is the best for both be it pentatonic or full scales.. sorry I misunderstood you and thought you were b-ll bus-ing lol

Does anyone bend strings with their pinky finger, come to think of it, can anyone do vibrato using their pinky finger?. I try to follow the “1 finger per fret” when practising scales(not that that happens often) and can just about manage a pull off or hammer on using my pinky but that’s as much as I can do with that finger .

Billy
I can do vibrato with my little finger in a classical, violin style vibrato but typical vibrato that you might see from Paul Kossoff, EC, SRV, etc, I would need my middle & ring finger to help
Same with bending but I use 11’s and my pinky isn’t quite strong enough to deal with bends

I learned by practicing and watching that most the time the fret pinky is used for legato and full scales and even that means nothing in twenty years time,, just watch and mimic the pros.. for one of many ..(Gary Moore is good example_
