Been working on this one with my tele, but was playing it a bit on my acoustic tonight while watching MNF and thought it sounded cool on it. I apparently need to work on the ending quite a bit more as evidence of the video, but thought I’d share anyway. Thanks!

Dave, yes it sounds definitely cool. Your Westburn sounds great. You play the guitar with a super dynamic and serve the track with great elements. For example, at 0:21. I really liked that. Furthermore, you seem to have a great grip on your acoustic guitar. I really enjoyed it, every second! Thumbs up.
WilfriedPlay guitar just like you live; don't get bogged down in theory, it's just a tool without feeling.

Very cool Dave. Sounds great with the accoustic. Nice grove on the rhythm parts and like Wifried mentioned you’re attacking the melody notes with great dynamics and feel. Well done!

Very well played Dave, a good finished acoustic sound with real strength and determination. You handled those Barre chords extremely well. Thoroughly enjoyable …. Thanks.

Sounded great, Dave. Loved that bend at .47 sec complete with a very cool guitar face embellishment. Great muting, too, really helped drive it.

Thanks, John! My wife and I were watching John Mayer once on TV play during one of the Crossroad festivals. He was really working in those face embellishments. My wife was making fun of it, so I had to explain to her that it actually helps your playing and the overall feel of your playing, and the more eccentric the face the better sound came from the guitar… she wasn’t buying though.

Excellent, Dave. Definitely in the groove on this one. Smooth transitions from lead to chords. Hard to play all the lead on acoustic with this, but you did it.

I was thinking what a few people already said, “nice groove.” It had me rocking back and forth while I listened (I think a progression like this can be repeated over and over without much variation). It sounded like a good intro for Bob Seger.

I can’t help but feel I have heard this somewhere before, it certainly puts me in mind of something.
Great bit of playing on acoustic Dave, you will be giving Lights and Johan a run for their money soon man.
BTW, if what you got there is original then your needing words for it....Billy..

Now Dave this is so cool,, very confidently played and I know you will level this no problem,, you do what I do for the most part,, gree style..lol.. but my meaning is is to get any of Brian’s weekly compositions down as tight as he does.. well this is my point,, he has something going on ( my persoal obsevation in my playing as with most here learning) I think it really is all about tempo/,metronome timing whatever we label it,, it is true.. that’s why I admire these showcases ,tis why we are here! together as a team helping each other critique but also admire and support each other ,, ( I for one really appreciate honest feedback from my friends iyou included of coarse) think you have done great with this so far,,another 10% on the tempo it gets 4 stars out of 5 lol.. loved it! And I am not a jelly bean here, I tell it like it is,,love the acoustic and great showcase!

Thanks, Billy! This is definitely not an original. though. Well I guess it’s a Brian original. This is lesson EP218. I wish I could come up with jams like this on my own, but just not there yet. Maybe one day!

Thank you, John, for your honest feedback. I also appreciate honest constructive criticism, it only helps our playing! With that said, you are 100% right… need to get that tempo up a bit to bring it up to Brian speed. Thanks!

Thanks for watching and commenting everyone! Being able to post our playing here and get other members feedback and reactions definitely is a great motivator. Enjoyed learning this as I have with all the lessons I have learned thus far.

Great. I posted my electric version couple weeks ago. I think this is a great one to have in the bag on cue for any time I sit down. Brian sometimes has the saying (like he did in EP146 Sept challenge) of what to do when someone says “play something on the guitar.” I think this fits the bill, and you just showed its great on acoustic too. Well done! and you nailed that high 1.5 bend.

Thanks, Duncan! You were actually my inspiration to learn this lesson. Saw your video of it, thought it sounded awesome, needed a new lesson to learn, made it a real easy decision what I wanted to learn next. So thanks for that, also. I do love the solo, no accompaniment, lessons partly because of what you described above. When some says ‘play something on guitar’ those ones are the ones to play. I do also love being able to play with a backing track, almost like you are in a band… really either way you cannot go wrong!

Dave ty man,, I really like how you took my opinion and hopefully you or any premium member isn’t afraid to critique my practice/showplays..lol..most ARE NOWHERE as perfect to the lessons as some replies would say,, i really believe if and when I see something or hear something from anyone here to at least be upfront so as to unlock even more insentive to learn what may be important for progress, otherwise i just wouldn’t comment.. it all depends on how my replies are taken ,,when i say great job, i truly mean it,, i know because i too am learning and noway 100% but yeah, same time encouragement replies are all a must too,, but even more so is help with the hardware! Plenty time to practice everything and learn and get honest feedback I always know is best! I also acknowledge MOST but not as much as Brian sure does here woth each of us and the skill level .. the ole saying, always going to better and less as we follow along.. but Brian is teaching for those who take the time to practice what he’s explaining in each weeklu lesson. enjoy man!

Dude, that sounded really cool on acoustic, nice guitar faces on the bends. The tempo transition from Lead to rhythm can be kinda tricky some time, I struggle with it and drop a beat here and there. I have been forcing myself to tap my foot while playing (it helps) but a little practice eventually smooths that over. You keep playing more confidently each time with more feel-you are definitely progressing. Sounding really good-it’s all coming together for you.

So I’ve been playing for over a year and progressing and enjoying the hell out of it. Some things throw me for a loop. Can someone help shed some light on a part of this lesson – EP218.
Specifically, at the very beginning (E chord). Brian has index on 7th fret – 5th string and barring first 4 strings and only playing 3 middle strings? It this a triad because it’s not a full barre on 7th fret as this is the “A shape” barre chord.
Please educate or simplify it for me?!
Thanks so much – would really appreciate it.
Take care…. -

Well played, Dave! Fairly complicated lesson in the mood of Jimi Hendrix. It rings pretty well on your acoustic and under your fingers.

Without having listened to the lesson I think it sounds great on your acoustic. Great feel of blues rhythm.
Slides, vibratos and bends on your acoustic sound so pure and smooth.
Thanks for sharing. We’ll done.

Great performance bud. I dont know that lesson but you nailed it.
Faces enhanced the performance, shows that you are really into it.
Man i never noticed i was doing faces before i saw myself on video.
I try to not do it, but i guess it comes naturally
Well done bud.AndréM

Really very well and very precisesly played, with great rythm and blues feeling! Very nice and entartaining to listen to.
This 1 and 1/2 bending on acoustic guitar is astonishing (for me is hard even on electric)!
Just a very small hesitation in the middle, otherwise it would be simply perfect! A very interesting and fun piece to put in my todo list! Thanks for sharing!Guido
