Awesome Rolf! Keep up the good work. Your rhythm section is way better than mine. I am trying to not only get Brian’s licks but improvise my own. It’s hard. I just need to practice it over and over.

I don’t think you are doing that bad at all Cheezy! Sure, there may be some room left for improvement, but dont put yourself under too much pressure. You are making good progress I think. By the time you got rhythm and lead perfectly synchronized I won’t even have the notes and chords fully memorized.
And again, all my respect to those who have the guts to post their attempts at Brian’s lessons here. It helps people like me an aweful lot to watch how others are faring, be it good or bad. I hope to be able to showcase my progress in guitar playing sometime soon, too, but in the two weeks since I got my interface and Studio One Artist software is lots of lost time and frustration.

That’s very impressive – I like to see you working the Boss Looper as well – I always find it tricky to get a loop just right, you did a great job at it. I’ve got my left and right hand coordinated fairly well, but introduce a foot to stomp on a looper and forget it 🙂
Anyway, great job in playing that!

Hi Tremelow,
I highly encourage you to post your progress. I find it to be a timeline of how much you are improving. You can also ask questions if you are having trouble with a section of the lesson. We are here to help!
You mentioned you got a new interface and software and losing time to it. Which interface did you get? Do you like it? Is it easy to use? Think about posting a thread in the Gear Section and giving a quick review to help us that are in the market for buying one. I am interested as I am currently in the research stage of buying a 2 channel interface. Right now all I have is the Apogee Jam and it is only 1 channel and only a 1/4″ input.
Anywho, I look forward to seeing you post your playing!

Very well said Bryce, watching others is a major help in learning. It’s always comforting when you see others having struggles at the same parts you do, or how they approach things when they nail it. It’s hard to put yourself out there, but most people are encouraging – and just ignore the ones that aren’t (they’re usually jealous 🙂

Hi Bryce,
thank you for your encouraging words. I will keep working on getting my audio files into this forum. I’m struggling enough with the audio part, so video will have to wait. What I got me is the Presonus AudioBox iOne, which comes with the StudioOne Artist DAW-Software. Cost me about 150,00 EUR (now, two weeks later I’ve already seen it for 120,00 EUR). It’s got one output for the guitar and one for a MIC, but one sales guy recommended I should buy the iTwo because of its two combo Input-lines.
I decided for the Presonus because it received tons of positive reviews. Apparantly, the interface was easy to use and made of high quality. The Studio One software also received high praises. Supposedly, it was easy to use and the most “intuitive” of all available DAWs. I can’t compare this gear with any other Interfaces/DAW, but to me the setup was extremely frustrating. It took me four hours to install the interface and the Software. Then I lost count of all the hours wasted on setting up the computer and correcting adjustments. I encountered numerous problems, e.g. all in a sudden Youtube didn’t work anymore. Another problem, that still persists is that the audio quality deteriorates after a while. Like, after e.g. watching videos for a few hours, the tone of the video starts to get so bad that I have to stop and restart the PC. I assume, this issue has got something to do with CPU usage.
What really bugs me is that support from Presonus only seems to cater to professional IT-guys/music technicians. Same with the gazillions of tutorials on the web. I am still waiting to find one that guides me step by step to a halfway decent recording of my guitar playing (with backing track) to release on the www.
On a more positive note I can say that I have already recorded a few guitar sessions. The learning effect of that is astounding! I can have a track running parallel to my playing, but I can only record my part. Supposedly, it is possible to pull a backing track (drag&drop;) into the Studio One recording surface, but I couldnt do it yet. I tried that more than once with Brian’s MP3-tracks, but to no avail.
The only available file format in S1 Artist is WAV. I don’t know if that is important for uploads onto Youtube or Facebook or other portals, but you need other programs or the S1 Professional upgrade to convert your WAV-files into MP3s.
For now I can only dream of the quality you are having with your videos Bryce. Your video and audio quality is envialbe and your playing is amazing! If I had all this I’d be more than happy. Really great. However, I am living in an apartment and only being able to practice in the evening and at night I can’t crank up my amp and record with a “normal” webcam like the one you are using. My neighbors wouldn’t like that. That’s why I thought an interface that allows me to plug my electric guitar directly into my PC would be the perfect solution. I would have never thought that this would be so challenging. No such thing as plug and play.

That was so nice to listen to.
The melody of the notes is what expresses the art of music . 🙂 6stringerPete
It really is all about ”melody”. The melody comes from a language from our heart. Our heart is the muscle in music harmony. The melody is the sweetness that it pumps into our musical thoughts on the fretboard. 🙂 6 stringer Pete
