Very nice Charjo great that you can do that. I have just started on the road to learn Cubase which came with my THR10c amp(lovely piece of kit) I have just got it working and am about to start to try a recording or two. So I can see how far you’ve got well done.

@JohnStrat, I just bought the THR10C, yesterday. I looked at the blues version but it just didn’t seem as versatile. The clean channel gives a beautiful warm, dynamic sound. I didn’t even realize it came with the software but that’s pretty neat, you should have everything you need to record. I wanted something portable to take to a friends place or out to the back yard.

Charjo,
Wow!
Come on now – tab it out, note for note (where have I heard that before?)

Chargo the THR10c is the blues version and has a dark satin blue body with USblues and BritBlues amongst its setting at the left for amp type not sure which you bought. Did you also get Cubase bundled sounds like you have? I had a difficulty getting my amp to talk to Cubase and you have to go to the VST settings and change the ASIO driver from Steinberg to Yamaha Steinberg. You probably have it all up and running but in case not this is what got mine up (I’m a rank amateur by the way) so from the main screen its menu choices:- devices, device setup, VST audio system ASIO driver. hope that helps.
I bet you cant believe how powerful it is for such a small box it really is a great tool. Brian told me he did a small café type gig with his..im not surprised..Have fun -

Sorry Charjo about the typo in your name above.

Thanks, @JohnStrat, you’re right, I have the THR10. I was conflicted but decided the beige one had some higher gain settings and the clean setting seemed pretty similar on both of them. I wanted the broader range of sounds so I didn’t need to carry pedals around. Hope I made the right choice. I haven’t set it up yet but I’ll get back to you if I have problems. I do like the look of the blue one better!

You probably got it right the highest gain of them i think is the 10x greenbody for serious distortion dont know if you gave it alook the computer interface gives you a whole lot more control to play with so im sure you will be realy happy with your choice when you have got to know it. You can actually get some pretty heavy sound out of the 10c but it comes into its own with the vintage type settings.

Great improvisation, beautifully played John. I love the cheerful vibe to Brian’s composition and your improv. suits it to a tee. Some very tasty licks, great clean tone (Strat?) and top-notch recording quality. Congrats

Thanks everyone. @Aussie Rick, tele on the neck pick up, HT distortion pedal with slight gain and extra bass in the tone, TC electronic Flashback for slapback, reverb on 3 in the Vibrolux amp.

Very nice JOhn….fits perfectly!
Congrats on getting the Yamaha!!!! Confused about which you bought….I’ve had the THR10C for over a year now…love it to death, not only does it sound awesome it’s my pickup and go amp…throw it in my backpack and off to jam, no pedals ever. But the THR10C IS the blues amp…instead of the clean, crunch etc settings…it actually has 5 amp models that then i make clean crunch etc using the editor software which is way more powerful than the onboard settings (cabinets for example)…..the deluxe is a pleasure to the ear….and the class A amp on a strat is pure SRV…The THR10X is the high gain….mesa boogie emulation. They all takes pedals well too….though not necessary…
The THR10 is the original release, never heard one until your recording, sounds good, did you mic or direct to pc?….simply less specific amp models, sort of a jack of all trades. So you didn’t like the 10C? I get massive les paul sounds on there….Tried to use Cubase, but not worth the learning curve vis a vis garageband and Apple Pro….which I already know.
Congrats and enjoy it!!!

@Maradonagol, I bought the THR10 but haven’t opened the box yet because I’m still not sure if I really want the THR10C. I didn’t realize there are many more presets in the software editor. Can you create higher gain settings and save them on the amp or are they only saved on your computer? Sounds like you’re happy that you can get all the rock tones you want from the THR10C.
-
February 7, 2016 at 11:18 pm #33365
Yes everything you do on the editor can be saved on any of the 5 preset buttons on the amp itself…that’s where the real action is, there are even cabinet/speaker and bias settings, it is an amazing amp. Plus the editor comes with something like 20 pre designed presets…rockabilly, British lead, British rhythm, American clean, American Blues, etc. If you want higher gain just raise it….I do that directly without presets straight on the amp. The technology is the same for all three models. What I liked about the 10c is that I get to pick an individual amp, and then model what I like, because you get each amp clean. I looked at the 10 online earlier and the settings say clean, crunch, etc…..10c or 10x seem more versatile that way. You know the kind of music I like, rock blues….very happy with 10c…loves pedals but not really needed.
I do know that the editors differ based on the model you have. The 10c or 10 do not have Mesa boogie model so presets based on that are not possible.
There are lots of great reviews of the 10c….remember the Canadian guitarist I posted a few weeks ago? That was a 10c….
Let me know if you have any more questions…

That opening was absolutely perfect, not that the rest was bad in any way, but boy, those first 30sec got my attention. And those bends are pitch perfect.
Btw nice tip with those yamaha THR10. I checked and they are very reasonably priced. I hope they will be around on next christmas, cause I think I’m getting one. And it’s battery powered! That old combo of mine is not cutting it and is just plain boring.

Got them triple notes really singing in there!
The melody of the notes is what expresses the art of music . 🙂 6stringerPete
It really is all about ”melody”. The melody comes from a language from our heart. Our heart is the muscle in music harmony. The melody is the sweetness that it pumps into our musical thoughts on the fretboard. 🙂 6 stringer Pete

Hi here is a picture of the software interface I cant be sure how it was set up when i got it but I could probably make a few sound recordings for you this evening and post them if you say which knobs you would like to tweak note the preset collection is on single coil chicken and runs up to 23 in the window well the spaces from 24 up to 100 are empty for you to create your own and save them. This editor is part of the THR setup so it applies to yours broaddly but i believe there are some difference

@Maradonagol, if you check the video of Philip Sayce playing at the radio station, he actually had the THR10 with pedals. Roberto and @JohnStrat, sorry to belabour the point but when we were trying them in the shop the knob presets on the THR10C didn’t seem to give a very overdriven sound, even with the gain all the way up. You are saying that I can take the same presets and make them more overdriven through the software editor? Thanks for your help.

Yes John, you’re right, I’ve watched so many I’m confused…but here is another Canadian….using the THR10C….if you need more gain than this….go for the THR10X. When you did your test….do you remember what amp or settings were on? That is key. The THR10 is meant to be a general purpose (nothing wrong with that) model. Therefore it has an amp setting called “modern” which is a Mesa/Soldano type high gain amp, in addition to the traditional models…so a little of everything. The gain knob on the amp and the gain on the editor are the same, you cannot get more gain inside the editor, I’ve never tried any of the modern or high gain models, but when I plug a LP in with no preset just the amp turned on, it’s a beast. Maybe you played on the modern setting that’s why you noticed so much difference. I’ll record a little of everything later today when I free up. In the end they are all great….oh also noticed that the 10C has additional reverb and delay (Tape echo, Echo reverb) settings. The main preamp gain on the amp is probably the same except for the high amp models. …Now if only it could let me play like Phil……

It depends on the amp selectio. ACO doesnt do much but delukes does. The preset buttons will remeber any setting you have chosen and store either by rotateing the knobs to a selection and then storing to a preset or from the sofware where you can also make up settings and store 76 of your own plus the ones setup by yamaha aka my pic.

Hi John here goes a demo of the THR10C. I made the recording with my Tascam 100mkII…great device….I did learn how good the mic’s are…I was commenting as I played…but you can barely hear it….thats what a unidirection condensor does….completely cuts out background noise….any way, I went through a whole bunch of settings, amps, used my Clapton strat and noodled…hope it helps.

@Maradonagol, Roberto, thanks for posting that, much appreciated. I am so torn, it’s killing me. I love the clean tone on the THR10 and the corresponding deluxe tone on the THR10C. The amps that are modelled on the THR10C tend to be low gain amps and apparently those are difficult to model the way this amp does. I do love the Marshall plexi and JCM800 as well as the Mesa Boogie rectifier amp models on the THR10. Apparently those are simpler amps to model and the Marshalls apparently don’t tweak that much on the THR10, much like a real Marshall amp. Is it possible that I need the THR10 and THR10C both? For a jack of all trades kind of amp I think I’ll stick with the THR10. If I love this thing, I might have to get the THR10C later. I’d have to sell something else to justify that! Couldn’t they have put it all in one box…I bet they could.
@JohnStrat, thanks for all your input as well.-

John glad to help…and if it involves playing guitar…it’s fun!! Now I’m the one that’s confused….I’m going to have to go check out the 10..didn’t think they were that much different. In my case, because I also have the Fender MUstang III, I’ve got the Mesa/Soldano Marshall/Orange/Hiwatt, multiple versions too, along with fenders all in one place. So I was really focused on the blues aspect….I barely ever use the mesa/soldano world….nothing like Marshalls and HIwatts…..with a les paul….
They did put it all in one place, it’s the Yamaha THR100 series head…way overpriced in IMHO US$1,000+. So maybe what you really want is the MUstang III…same money as the Yamaha 10’s…ALL the high gain amps, all the fenders, all the vox’s….outstanding tone….
As johnstrat said this is all good info for others to think about. I’ll leave you to your thoughts and sounds then….good luck and enjoy the hunt.

Charjo you are very welcome. I think the debate and help here has helped clarify for you and looks like you have what you want. If you stick with the 10 it would be great if you cold throw up a few licks and setting here and then we would have our own independent info isn’t that great. And any body else coming to the decision point would find it useful. They certainly all sound great don’t they. regards John Strat

I am out of my depth here, but a quick google search gives lots of comparative info on the X and the C. Here’s the first part of a YouTube comparative review:
For a relatively cheap, all purpose modeling amp, why not the Line 6 Spider 4?

Hi John, that’s really nice. I’ve been dragging my feet hoping I’ll think of something else to say, but it just sounds very nice.
I’ll mention here too that the progression is pretty much the same as the main part of David Bowie’s “Sound and Vision” and similar to Van Morrison’s “Brown-Eyed Girl,” so anyone who gets this down will have a head start on those.

@charjo
Hi John, I listened to your creation several times to understand it, what you did there. I think it is really a great work. To me the sound selection is very pleasing. To me your guitar playing is like really good. How you create or design. We have with our Software, a lot of opportunities. You mastered it, obviously, and produces super results. You Have My Respect.
Great Overall Result.Wilfried
Play guitar just like you live; don't get bogged down in theory, it's just a tool without feeling.

Hey John you performed that one really well; your interpretation is always very smooth and some times I sense that soft jazz feel to it.
Well done and look forward to your future posts……….not forgetting your promise for video productions LOL!
