The soundtrack on this really enhances the film. Thanks for posting it Billy. I’m always fascinated by the sharp focus, clarity and beauty of Django’s sound as well as his brilliance.

There was a Glasgow band called Rose Room and the guitarist called Tom Watson I think played one of these guitars same type of music as Django Reinhardt.
There is a video link to them playing below at a Barrowlands gig for the Clutha Bar ( For those not familiar a police helicopter crashed into the bar about 2013) These guys must have had sore arms-fingers playing rhythem and lead on guitar with this kind of music.

That was a superb addition to the thread Donald, Thanks for that man.
I seem to recall Selmer electric guitars being quite popular here in the lateish 60’s, Gerry Marsden, Clapton and Harrison all played Selmer’s or used Selmer amps, infact Selmer amps from the 60’s still sell today, Zodiacs, thunderbird or Truvoice can still be found on ebay.uk..
I just love listening to this Gypsy jazz style of playing guitar, It is all so 100 mph sounding....Billy..

Yesterday was Django’s birthday (and mine). My wife took me to an “International Guitar Night” in Olympia, WA as a birthday present.
I didn’t think I would like it because it was all acoustic. Boy was I wrong!! It was fabulous. We had front row seats (small town). Django’s Great Grandnephew was one of the four guitarists. Can he ever play. He can’t read a note of music we were told. One of the four has a doctorate (PHD) in music. He said “Lulu” Rhineheart was able to play spontaneously in any key with any type of music. Lulu is Django’s Grandnephew.
If any Active Melody members ever have a chance to go to this event I would highly recommend it.

It appears there are a number of copies of this Selmer 503
Dupont MD 50
Saga
Stringphonic
Paris SwingThe Dupont MD 50 by luthier Maurice Dupont appears to be well respected from this website
http://www.djangobooks.com/Item/dupont-md50-2015
The MD50 is Maurice’s standard Selmer copy which is based on the same specifications as the legendary Selmer guitars produced from 1932-1951. This instrument features Indian rosewood back and sides, a French spruce top, and a walnut neck. Duponts are known for their clear, dry tone and this instrument is no exception. Each note is well defined and projects well, without any of the annoying overtone ringing or muddiness that lesser guitars suffer from.Maurice’s precision fretwork and neck geometry allow for easy playing low action which enables one to play even the most difficult passages with little effort. For these reasons, the MD50 has long been the “go to” guitar for professional Gypsy jazz guitarists. It has the most traditional Selmer tone and the best quality workmanship and materials that one can find in this price range. For these reasons it’s our best selling guitar!
………………………….Indian rosewood does appear to be brighter than mahogany from what I have heard and listened to, the Brazilian rosewood was used in early Martins and supposed to be better but is hard to get now and expensive. I think I prefer mahogany for a warmer sound.
I like a bit of this gypsy jazz but only now and then I prefer the blues maybe Brian can come up with a lesson some time with a rhythem and lead sections in gysy jazz theme.
I bought one of Rose Rooms albums quite good for a change now and then Amazon uk it not selling individual tracks at present or would have taken tracks from the three albums so I got am I blue album.
