I am what I would consider myself still a beginner getting very close to a more intermediate player, having been playing now for approximately 4 years.
I was wondering peoples opinions on using different picks for different styles of guitar?
I started with an acoustic guitar and having tried a good few picks I seem to be more comfortable with a .46mm Jim Dunlop Standard, and around a year ago I bought an electric guitar and again after experimenting with a good few picks I have settled with being more comfortable with a .73mm Jim Dunlop Primetone Jazz III XL.
I find that if I try to play the acoustic with the .73mm I am far to loud, heavy handed and inaccurate with my playing nowhere near the quality than with the .46mm. And alternately with the electric the .46mm is far too flexible to be accurate with playing licks.
I would welcome suggestions whether to carry on as I am using different picks for different styles of guitar or would it be more beneficial for me to practice and try to settle on one pick for all, or is this something that will change as I get more experienced?
