Hi Gang,
Another year is here…..who knows what happens next……???
For my submission I chose EP 339 as it was rich in major pentatonic tones and scale usage. It also featured a slow and fast version and I took….you guessed it….. the slow version. I’m about a week away from being able to do it as Brian does it on screen. I had fun practicing this one….simple but complex musically via the phrasing and dynamics. I hit some good notes and some bad ones as well…..but I was determined not to make this an all afternoon project so I went with my second take……please excuse the clams……LOL

Great Martin, “slow and steady” always wins the race. Sounding great. Happy New Year…look forward to more of your videos with the added summaries. Always fun to listen to.

Nice slow blues, Marty! You always ensure a great sound with your equipment. A nice, healthy 2020!
Play guitar just like you live; don't get bogged down in theory, it's just a tool without feeling.

I always look forward to your contribution Marty and this does not disappoint in any way. You play really well and it’s always a pleasure to listen to you. The rig rundown is secondary but always interesting and I notice a lot more AMers are including a run down of what they are using, probably following your excellent example. I totally get your collection of guitars, if I had the resources then I would fill my house with guitars of every kind, but what I don’t understand is why anyone needs more than one amplifier ……… I just don’t get it. I have an American friend living a couple of kilometres down the road from here and we get together and jam (murder!) Dizzy and Coltrane once a week. He has four amplifiers!! Why?? I just don’t get it!
Happy New Year to you Marty and all your family. It’s a true pleasure to know you.

One of the greatest and iconic lesson made by Brian indeed. I love the way you did it, great post, Marty!

Nicely played Martin. I also agree that 1 month really is not enough to get to Brian’s speed. And it usually is one passage!
Thanks for the rig rundown. Again, always interesting. -

Nice job on this one Marty. I find that playing the lessons slowly and precisely is the best way to get the licks down! Keep up the good work!!

Nicely played Marty, slower than Brian was always going to be a winner. You always produce a quality sound from your equipment and today was no exception. Love the rig run-down, hope for many more in 2020.

Very cool, Marty. So laid back and played easy and really threw me into a dreamy mood. The tones from the Strat were outstanding.

Everything here was outstanding, Marty! Your playing was steady and fluent, the tone was nice to the ear, and the rig rundown was a treat as usual. I like your simple no-nonsense narrative, it’s interesting and soothing at the same time …
And also … you and Brian must have the same interior designer 😉🎸JoLa

Great job! Really enjoyed it. But, looks like you have some empty space on your wall. Think you need a couple more guitars!

Great B.B. feel Marty. Crisp tone from your set up. Playing slow isn’t easy, but you did so well with feeling. Hide

Thank you all for your kind remarks. You know the deal. We can use all the encouragement we can get.
Martyn….to offer an answer to your question about the need for multiple amps. This is indeed a question that could be kicked around for hours….but I’ll keep it short because I need to go to work today. 😉
Simply put, different amps sound different….and do different tricks. Digital amps, (no tubes) often called combos, can be made to emulate a wide variety of voices (clean to dirty) and often include a host of digital effects such as delay, overdrive, modulation such as tremolo; much like the Blackstar that I just demo’d. It might be considered a Swiss army knife of amps. Other tube based amps such as a Fender Princeton Reverb amp feature clean sounds, usually reverb and maybe a tremolo. But they are typically revered for their pristine clean sounds and effects are introduced, if wanted, via pedals. The tubes used to drive them determine how the amp reacts to the string vibration thus determining the tones that we hear. Acoustic guitars on the other hand sound much better and truer when played through an acoustic amp, one that is designed to optimize the sound coming from the large wooden chamber of an acoustic guitar. And of course, it’s nice to have a small portable amp for easy traveling…..So we’ve already covered 4 amp types and I haven’t even started…..but it’s time to go to work…..
Thanks for the inquiry. I love talking shop…..

Keep on rocking Marty, I learned the slow version first as well and then I practiced a lot to reach the speed of light like Brian does 🙂
Well done!

Enjoyable as always, Marty.
You’ve got a serious case of GAS – new gear every time almost 😉 Enjoy hearing about it all, though.
Happy New Year to you.

Great job on playing this one, Marty. You managed to get some cool effects happening that went perfectly with the mood of the jamtrack. You are truly the AM Gearmeister!

Great feeling and playing there Marty. Really like the slow version too, keeping the slow feel without losing the tone like this is really skillful.
