Hello AM folks!
This is my 30th in a row challenge 🙂 I keep trying to focus on the rhythm so I ended up picking EP083 the Vintage Rhythm lesson for this challenge. It’s still tough to keep it clean and not have fingers tripping over each other but I managed to record something.
Then I dug into playing lead in major pentatonic scale over it and I gotta say I learned a lot! Before that, I couldn’t wrap my head around the patterns being the same just shifted and yet minor licks not working – but now I got it (the roots are in different positions!). That was a light bulb moment for me. I experimented with some lead ideas and had a rough idea what worked and what didn’t, especially with the key change. Believe it or not, the video recording of the lead took just one take, despite of all the distractions! That’s a first for me, I’m still in shock 😉
Looking forward to seeing everyone’s submissions tonight and also looking forward to another wonderful year with Active Melody!
🎊 Happy New Year, everyone! 🎉

Let me be the first to say:’That is simply outstanding!’ I loved every minute of it. Your lead and rhythm play is nicely coordinated and of course, your video is exceptional as always. Thanks for sharing. BTW, congrats on 30 straight monthly challenges. That is quite impressive.

Yes, that’s the way. The patterns you write about become memorable over time. You have therefore mastered a demanding task well; everything went well together and was pleasant in sound. Your video was also very engaging. Great overall package Jola! Even your dog couldn’t get you out of bpm (2:25),LOL. Really great job.
Play guitar just like you live; don't get bogged down in theory, it's just a tool without feeling.

This is one amazing video Jola and I loved it all, you have come some miles since you joined us and it’s been such a pleasure to share the journey you’ve been on. And the guy taking the laundry upstairs ………… well I guess he’s a great support too. And as for the leaping dog …. well you didn’t miss a beat.
Happy and Healthy New Year to you and you family Jola. If you weren’t here we’d have to invent you!!

Well done Jola, beautiful harmonisations, and what concentration, nothing disturbs you when you record, it’s the sign of a great mastery.

Wonderful submission JoLa!
Rhythm and lead both are very tight. How you stayed focused with all the distractions was amazing. Love that long necked SG.James

WOW What a wonderful song. First I’m shocked that you have done 30 in a row! I’m impressed. I wanted it to keep going. The whole production was over the top. Can I ask what you used to produce it? Like Garage Band and Movie Maker???? Anyway Jola I always look forward to your playing and all the effort you put into it. You inspire me to do better. Thanks

How to make that SG sing Jola! Your composition all melded together perfectly. It was funny watching the distractions in the background…but it didn’t bother you…

Very nice. I love that style of music and you played it well. I also like how you did the split screen. What program do you use to do that?

Very nice playing and should I say ” production” . Nice all around. It would be a big step for me to play the rhythm and them play the lead on top of it! Well I guess I have a new project now!

Absolutely brilliant a real tour de force and complete composition I really enjoyed it.
From a mix prospective it’s a busy track the guitar tones complemented it would be easy for them to wash together but they didn’t.
This was just a great project to undertake really well done, it’s one of those that really puts miles in the guitar bank and improves you overall

Amazing production. The lesson part was tight and your twin sister played some excellent lead over it. Great harmonizations. Congrats on your 30th in a row. You rock!

To reach submission no.30 is such a great achievement, and what a great portfolio of creative work you have. Always extending yourself but still continue to excel with great pieces of work. Does AM have a Monthly Challenge Honour Board for high achievers?

This was absolutely brilliant. Ever thought of asking Spielberg for a job? Super playing and improvisation as we’ve come to expect from you. Congratulations on number 30, that shows a great measure of dedication and application.
Thank you for your tips about my YouTube problems. I have iMovie on my iPad but have difficulty syncing the video track with the MP3 track from my DAW. I have tried to find a version of iMovie that I can download onto my laptop but there doesn’t seem to be a compatible version for Microsoft. -

Another killer performance, JoLa! Really enjoyed all the parts.
Is that a new SG? I thought you once had an older red guitar that looked like an SG, but now you have a new SG? Anyway, guitar looks and sounds great.

Jolanta, you are the winner of this challenge! How could you did this, seems like you had a huge work at this month, unbelievably sharp and smooth hitting the notes. Like your impros very much and congrats to 30! (I know you are younger actually)

There a real workhorse of a guitar you can get so many tones out of them, there a lighter sound to an LP and you can get a great treble bite out of them without it cutting you. Weight wise there spot on and sit nice on the knee with the long neck.
Great choice

Jola, outstanding ! Super cool performance, especially considering all the distractions. I mean, it must be difficult to play with all those snowflakes and fireworks 😉
Your playing has improved a lot over the 30 lessons and this beats them all.Peter

January 5, 2020 at 8:16 pm #156690
Yeah! Wow that was cool on so many levels. First, your playing was great, both rhythm and lead, but when I read that you improvised that lead in one take I was blown away. That’s seriously impressive. And 30 submissions? That’s got to be the all-time record. I think you’ve earned a special, one off T-shirt. I’ll email you the details. congratulations.
-

JoLa. When I saw you playing an SG, and knew this was about major pentatonic, I was thinking of Mick Taylor (of The Rolling Stones, my favorite guitar player). Boy, you actually sounded like hime (and the Stones). Very smooth. Impressive to hear that you are improvising. A very fine musician you are! Hide

Great job. I liked the variety of tones you used as well. Sort of a rockabilly era on the rhythm and a nice rich clean on your lead. Very pleasant to listen to.
-
January 6, 2020 at 1:32 am #156796
Well, I shall add that to my Youtube Favorites. I could listen to that all day. Very nice job of syncing the rhythm and lead, both audio and video. I don’t think I heard a single flaw in your playing. I think you’re ready to quit your day job anytime now.

We have such an awesome Active Melody community, I’m so happy to be a part of it! I appreciate each and every comment and interaction, they are very encouraging. I can’t believe how fast the time has gone, it seems just like yesterday I posted my first submission!
I’ll be looking forward to see my special t-shirt (What a surprise! Thank you, Brian!)
Thank you, everyone, you guys and girls rock!🎸JoLa

January 6, 2020 at 12:51 pm #156949
That sounded great, JoLa, you’ve grown by leaps and bounds! I especially like your sense of what I’d call drama; for one example, how your busy lick at around 1:30 foretold the arrival of the ascent in bars 8 and 9.

January 7, 2020 at 11:46 am #157139
Hi Jola……so my first criticism is that you were way too heavy on the snow…..As for your playing…it’s apparent that you are spending way too much time practicing because you are progressing in leaps and bounds….It even requires two players to put forth what you’ve got to offer….lighten up….please….
OK I’m sure you know the above is sarcastic humor….and that I (like the others above) was very impressed by this latest Jola production. Where will you stop !!!!!!!!!
LOL
Best regards.
