Still in the lock down Covid mode – stuck in the music room trying to entertain ourselves. Recorded this 4 times before settling on this version. Phyllis is providing the drums, bass and sax sounds on her keyboard. I’m yelling in the microphone and flailing away at the guitar. I may have accidentally hit a proper note here and there in spite of myself. 😁 Stay safe Everyone.

wonderful Clarke! Fifties sweet! Reminded me of sitting in the movies in the 1970s watching American Graffiti – great vocals, sax, and guitars!

Hey Clarke. Lots of ‘proper notes’ can be found here for sure. Really loved this song and your rendition. Am not actually familiar with this so had to look up original artist so I’ve learnt something today and be entertained by you both at the same time. Music Room is probably the safest place at the moment anyway so good reason to play music. We’re lucky here in Melbourne, Australia. Our state of Victoria had 61 days Covid free (after being in the 1000s last year), had a little rise in cases recently but back to 0 at the moment (except some quarantining coming from OS). All the best!

Fantastic. Must be great to be able to both sing and play the guitar so well as you have done here. ( I would defintely not describe this as “yelling and flailing”)

“Yelling”? LOL! You sing really very well old good rock’n’roll and I can hear only right notes! “Flailing away”? Well I must confess I don’t know what it means, but again the guitar part is perfect and overall everything (sax, keyboards and rhythm) sounds very good! If I can close my eyes, I can dream to be at one of these ballroom concerts back in the ’50 – ’60 in the US!

I really like your remake of J.Geils Band 1971 release “Cry one more time” !
You turned it into more of a country sound, with good vocals and guitar. Good job I enjoyed it!

        Don,

You just educated me on this song, I had no idea that J Giles Band had recorded this. I was trying to copy Gram Parsons version which now I know was recorded after J Giles. I just listened to both versions and I like them both although they are quite different.

Robert that would be a neat thing to do. Listen to the J Giles band version and the Gram Parsons version. You may want to put your own interpretation on it.

Most people that can sing aren’t necessarily great guitar players. You do both very well.
This has that 50’s vibe to it, although it was written later. It brings me back to a time when I was young. I love that style of music and you and Phyllis performed it very well.

      Clarke,
Wasn’t sure if I had listened to this… I saw that I had and you know what I did? I listened to it again imagined how cool it would be to be in a band like this touring out of VW Bus like the “Commitments.” This is great stuff. Better the second time…

Guys I surely do appreciate all the nice comments. I wasn’t expecting anything close to the positive response to this. John your mention of the VW Bus and the commitments brings to mind a saying about Hank Williams ‘ spent a $100 dollars on a $50 dollar show ‘ I started with nothing and through the years have managed to keep most of it.

Everyone stay safe and keep Pick’n.
