I hit a wall for a long time playing guitar and wasn’t progressing. Active Melody changed that. My first exposure to CAGED wasn’t very profitable b/c I didn’t quite get it. It’s more than just playing the same chord 4 different ways up the neck. I am the type that has “to do” before I understand the explanation/theory behind something. After learning EP 278, EP073 (Scotty Moore solo), EP259 and EP092 I realized that I was using/learning the CAGED method without an awareness to it. I am the type that has “to do” before I get the theory. After “I do” I get the theory. While pushing through these mostly country/rockabilly arrangements, I realized that even though these were not described as CAGED lessons they most certainly were. Each one invoked chord and lick usage up and down the neck in various positions. This became my aha moment when the light bulb went off for me. I think a lot of these lessons invoke the CAGED method not just the ones that are described as CAGED. I think now CAGED has opened my mind and eyes to the many unlimited possibilities up and down the neck. I am no longer worried about developing speed as much developing my voice and actually trying to say something relevant. Playing has become more fun.
