Tagged: Pentatonic patterns 1-5
Hi – I enjoyed the blues lead course and is comfortable with the patterns 1-5 connected to the A-chord, which are all positioned down the neck in relation to the barred chord. But what happens to the position of the patterns when you move to a barred chord further down the neck i.e. a C-chord? I have a 12-fret guitar so its difficult to move beyond 12th fret. Where do the patterns migrate to – and what are the rules?
Top of the neck, the patterns repeat.
Thanks Billy – but my concern is to what exact fret they are mirrored and which rules are applied.
Work back toward the headstock, Gunnar. In the key of C,Box 5 will start at fret 6, box 4 at fret 3 and box 3 at fret 1. It’s a good idea to start to see where the root notes are to help identify them and it will prove invaluable down the road.
Thanks -this was the information I was looking for.
If you know the pentatonic positions in the key of A (as per the lessons), just move all positions up 2 frets, and now you know them in the key of B. Or down 2 frets and now you know them in the key of G. The fingering patterns are always the same.
