Well, here we go then. I honestly don’t know what the Lesson number is for this, I think it was possibly one of the old “LEG” lessons( which I couldn’t find).
I recall attempting this about 4 or so years back and what you are getting today is from memory, So it is what it is and I’ve thrown a few pictures into the video of Bonny Scotland just to distract from my playing hahahaha
Stand alone without a backing track is something I don’t usually do/try/attempt..anyway, enough waffle from me.

I like it. It sets a mood. Picture an old black and white detective movie, driving around at night in the rain. Good job!

Excellent playing, your best ever! You seem really relaxed and made it look easy. I’ve never heard any lesson like that. You could have told us you just made it up and we would have believed you. BTW, I loved the photos of Scotland. I would love to see some more, since I’ve never been there.

Its one of the “Leg” series of lessons Steve, I tried to track it down but couldnt find it. What I attempted to play was how i remembered it, so its probably nothing like Brians version..
Very Scenic and historic landscape here in Scotland Steve, I’ll gather some pics together and tie them into a slde show for you....Billy..

I’m sorry about you don’t know what lesson it is, ‘cos it’s great lesson and I know that I’ve played it too while ago, but don’t remember as well which lesson it was, but O.K. I will find it out. Very nice playing anyway, Bill!

Played very pleasantly with feeling, Billy
Accurate operation of the tones.Play guitar just like you live; don't get bogged down in theory, it's just a tool without feeling.

Excellent, Billy. You’ve got quite a memory if you remember that lesson from 4 years ago! Also, you’ve got quite a talent for setting a mood in your playing and drawing the listener in. Please keep it up. Great to see you posting again and hope you will submit more.

There’s certainly something familiar with that lick that runs through the song but I’m not sure if it’s a Brian song or something else. Anyhow that was very enjoyable to listen to and the views of Bonny Scotland were a sight for sore eyes.

Thank you very much. I’m not normally one for doing the monthly challenges but this one fired me up because I don’t do stand alone playing usually, have to admit though that this was a lot of fun, I suppose because I didn’t have to worry about timing or what the backing track was doing.

Great to hear your playing again, Billy, and a really nice sound. This has been one of my favourites of the early lessons for a long time. Great images of Scotland too – I think I recognised the Jacobite steam train which runs from Fort William to Mallaig. I hope you let us have your playing more often in the future!

I liked the feeling you created Billy. Bluesy! I was at New Castle area a few years back. You seem to live even further north. I was so intrigued by the diversity in terms of English accents. Was little hard to understand what the fight attendants were saying once I was on the small plane to New Castle. Stayed at Durham. I was told it is where the Industrial Revolution started.

Accents in the u.k. are as diverse as the country itself, Im in Scotland though not England, Newcastle is about 280 miles south east from Glasgow where I live.
I’ve been in Newcastle and Durham, lovely places and people...Billy..

Well there’s nothing wrong with the memory that sounded as fresh as a new day. Lots of bluesy soul and character in your playing. There’s nothing quite like a well played slow blues. Lovely reminder of Scotland’s beauty too, when its not raining that is 😉 (Good result in the rugby too this weekend)

It’s good to see you play in the monthly challenge, although you are a well-known pillar on the forum for helping out fellow players with advice. Nicely packaged and a seasoned player with the goods and a ready made audience waiting for your next one.

Great stuff Billy, very emotive & as I listened I kept thinking a metronome in the background (only just audible) would sound really cool not just as a timing tool but as a separate instrument?
You definitely got it though……….. More!!.

I had thought about a stompbox like steve used in his response but i thought that was outside the criteria Brian had set so i left it out, it certainly worked for Steve though, his response was fantastic.

Thank you, yes you are correct it has been a very long time since i last took up a challenge, I seem to have the mindset that if the idea doesnt grab me then i lose interest very quickly and stop having fun.

Holy cow, it must have taken me 5 minutes to scroll down to the comment window! Goes to show how much your contributions are valued, Billy. Same here! Great to see you participating in the challenge. And you sent in a mighty find piece of playing, chap. I instantly recognized it. It’s one of my favorite pieces and I posted it once, too. Nice video, too. I had to watch it twice: Once for seeing you play (it’s not the new guitar with the P90’s, right?!) and once for the pictures. Brought me back some fond memories of my trip there two years ago.

Hi mate, yes its my newish Harley Benton double cut junior with a single p90, ive not put it down since i got it, well thats not true cos i had to make a new nut for it as the original was way too high… Im still playing around with the different tones adjusting the vol & tone gives..
Cheers for watching twice, thats got to be a first thats happened to me..hahahaha..Billy..
