I’ve decided to get and electric guitar and amp. I currently play an acoustic. I’ve looked at all sorts of research and marketing and frankly, I’m a bit overwhelmed. I’d like to stay, for now, in the $300-$400 range for the guitar, at least for this first one. As my skill grows, I’ll probably upgrade in a couple of years or so. I’m a firm believer in “getting what you pay for”, and don’t mind paying a little extra for better quality. I am looking at Epiphone Les Pauls, which are in that price range (used). I guess the question is…….what are the best “low end” models? You can get a Epiphone Les Paul “special II” for less than $150, brand new, and a Squier strat for about the same money, but frankly I don’t trust that a guitar that costs no more than that is worth owning. I’m not expecting a ferrari for the price of a kia, but I would like to know if there are better quality models out there in my price range of $300-$400.
