The techniques here range from the most sophisticated to brutal attacks on the instrument. Although I named the list for harmonica players too, it seems like I remember to save more guitar-based songs to the list than harmonica-based songs.
I posted this playlist here before (I actually created it about 2 years ago for an Our Blues Roots focusing on the guitarists who played with Junior Wells).
Here’s a Junior Wells record with Buddy Guy you’ll probably want to hear. About half of it was recorded live at Pepper’s Lounge in Chicago in 1966, also released in 1966 (it’s part of producer Sam Charters’ deal with musicians who played on his 3-LP series Chicago / The Blues / Today!).
When I went to post it, I had to remove a few from the list that had been deleted from YouTube, leaving 333 songs. I add to this list all the time, sometimes including multiple copies of the same song (I know what I like). Several musicians have more than one entry; for example, Bee Houston has 3. As I mention in the Description, this list mostly doesn’t include the people we first think of as intense, like Robert Nighthawk, Elmore James or Buddy Guy’s early incendiary stuff as they have playlists all their own.
The second-to-last song is Magic Slim’s one-chord “Teardrop,” followed by Doc Terry’s “Running Blues.” I hope you find something you like that inspires you.
