Thank you, Brian! Thanks to everyone for your excellent participation!
There were 47 people participating this month, 12 less than last month’s 59 submissions. As always, it was a pleasure listening.
I didn’t see any new participants but it’s good to see a lot of people back for their second and third time. Twelve consecutive months of participation in the Monthly Challenge earns you an Active Melody T-shirt. If I missed someone new, my sincere apologies. If I missed posting your video altogether, I’d be really sorry, please let me know as soon as you can, thanks!

Hey Don, I thought you got an AM T-shirt after 6 challenges in a 12 month period or a Challenge Champion T-shirt for 12 consecutive challenges. Am I confused here?

You’re right, Brian.
You earn an ActiveMelody t-shirt for 6 entries in 12 months OR you could wait to qualify for the Challenge Champion t-shirt after 12 months.

47 participants this month vs 59 last month? Why is that I wonder? In the olden days when our forum moderator Bryce organized the monthly challenges, for the first year or so he chose a specific lesson each month, and everyone played the same lesson. Then at some point, every so often he would announce an “open challenge” where members could play anything they chose. The open challenges always had more participants. Now days Brian often chooses a particular style, genre, or artist, or asks us to try some improv. Maybe some members thought Eric Clapton’s style was too difficult, or they just don’t like his style of music.

There is something different between the present situation and when Bryce organised the Monthly Challenges, ie, the weekly lessons are now longer and more complicated to learn and play proficiently. This gradual change to lengthening the lessons I believe has happened over the last few years and is in many ways a compliment to Brian’s teaching prowess but I wondered whether members are now torn between learning a ‘lesson’ or a ‘challenge’ (both of which are longer) but don’t have time to do both. That is with the exception of Sunburst John who’s prolific learning curve is astounding.
Just a thought …….

Steve, Richard, your observations are probably on the right track. I didn’t check back, but I think the 59 last month was a record. The June Challenge in early July was closer in number to this one.
