Well, this challenge was so entertaining, but I couldn’t decide on anything in particular, here are my two failed attempts. So I have themed my 2 submissions as “Keeping me humble blues”
Funny, though every time I show my playing I feel like I’m improving ever so slightly. So far all of your submission has been inspiring, well-done everyone.
EP119 – Kinda
Walking blues – Almost

Couple of good pieces there James, I like the natural rustic sound to them both. Just out of interest, where do you source your inspiration from, the slide players or dobro players? Kelly Joe Phelps has always been my lap blues guitar idol.

Cheers Richard. At the moment I’m really into Marcus King and Derrick Tucks. I’ll check out Kelly Joe Phelps. thank you again

Oh man well done I found 119 way harder than it looked on the surface, try it with some heavy overdriven slide the backing track rhythm is on the lower strings as well and you’ve a slide power chord on 4/5 string to punctuate some lead
Now I’ve suggested it think I may have to go and give it a go
Really enjoyed your slide vocal blues, keep on rockin

The contrast between the two pieces was admirable, and I enjoyed both – the energy of the first and the measured reflective second. Nice work James.

A little Robert Johnson. You got right down to the roots of the song James!!! That’s what I’m talking about.

James, In the first one, you are playing it like Jeff Healey. Very creative. The second one sounds very Robert Johnson-ish. You must have sold your soul to the devil!

Well done, Parrot! On both of them. I didn’t know you could also sing, but I like your style. Using a slide seems like a good idea – is it easier or harder for you to play that way?

Steve, the slide is harder for me because I have to keep it straight with the fretts but I think I might invest in a tone bar and heavier strings. Thank you for your kind words.

i only watched the first one and it was great, wonderful smooth but fat tone, definitely blues-roots, and like someone else said, I see Jeff Healey style playing there (upside down on the neck) and that’s not easy. I met Jeff Healey once and watched him playing and tried playing upside down like that for a few months but just couldn’t get top of it, although it was great for searing bends – it’s easier to pull strings down than push them up. so congrats on getting on top of (my hero) Jeff Healey style playing.
did I mention great tone – perfect balance of smooth and gritty.-

Thank you Mr. Moose, Jeff Healey is still one of my great inspirations.

James, that was awesome! I loved the tone and the groove of the 1st song, it kept my feet tapping and really enjoying your solos there! 👏👏👏 And then you also showed your slide and voice abilities, nice! The acoustic guitar looks like Yamaha APXT2, one of my favorite ones! 🙂

I have no idea how you do that; it is definitely something very special. It is always interesting to watch you. If I may suggest something, maybe a little more overdrive in the sound; not too much. Try it once. Thumbs up!
Play guitar just like you live; don't get bogged down in theory, it's just a tool without feeling.

James that was two contrasting styles of song. I especially Walking Blues. It had a real authentic old blues feel to it. Sorry about the late response. Been away and trying to catch up.
