The other evening I sat down and listened to the Animals and The Wall albums start to finish. I think it has been a decade or more since I listened to an entire album at one time. I remember in my teen years looking forward to a new album release and then buying the tape cassette or CD and listening to the entire thing. Anyway, I forgot how great those two albums sound. Anyone remember going to Pink Floyd laser shows at a planetarium?

What I remember is that there was a period of time (from 33 1/3 rpm records to CDs) where rock albums were designed to be listened to sequentially from start to finish. People would go to a store that sold records or CDs, listen to them in the store, then buy the ones they liked. The whole album told a story, or explored a concept. Pink Floyd, The Moody Blues, Yes, Emerson Lake and Palmer, even sometimes the Beatles, to name a few. I think those types of sequential song collections are mostly a thing of the past, since we don’t have real albums anymore. I haven’t bought a CD in at least 20 years, don’t even own a CD player except the one that came in my car. Sad but true.

I grew up listening to Pink Floyd and they have been with me in my subconscious mind throughout my life. They were not the only band I loved but definitely my number one, no doubt. Most of my musical tastes derive from their music one way or another. I started playing guitar only about 8 years ago and only recently started to appreciate the simplicity of some of their songs. No matter how many times I listen to their songs, I can never get tired of them.

Of all the bands we enjoyed over the years, Pink Floyd comes to the top every time for me. When I was holidaying in France, I sent the ‘Wish You Were Here’ postcard (that came with the album) to my cousin in UK, who was also a big fan.

I think it was 1973 when I saw their DSOTM concert and they put on a huge light show and the sound system surrounded you. It was mind blowing! I was only about 13 or 14 years old and I’ve enjoyed everything David Gilmour since then!

Used to be really be into Floyd. I saw them live 3 times. The first time they did the entire Dark Side Of The Moon, and played the first side of Meddle. Echoes was amazing.
The second, and best show, was The Animals Tour at old Cleveland Stadium. They had the flying pig zeppelin, and when they played Sheep, cannons shot floating sheep into the air, and when they reached the audience they turned to ashes. I remember the band never spoke a word to the audience.
The third show was at OSU Buckeye Stadium, without Roger Waters. Still great without Waters.
All three shows they played with such perfection.
I don’t listen to them much anymore because I have all their music so memorized I can hear it whenever I want to. LOL
I think I will give a listen to Dogs. I think that is some of Gilmore’s best soloing.

Animals is probably my favorite PF album. It is also probably in my top five of all albums.

I did just listen to Dogs, and I remembered correctly, it is great guitar playing on that one, especially the harmonized parts. Haven’t heard it for years.

Here I’m, I’ve always been a huge Pink Floyd fan since I was a boy child. I can say that in some way I learned English thanks to PF: when I decided to study it when I was about 20 y.o., one of the reasons was because I wanted to finally understand the meaning of the lyrics by my self (you could find some book with translations, but they were very poor ones).
I saw the post Waters Pink Floyd 2 times, in Verona in 1989 and in Udine in 1994, and then very recently a David Gilmour’s concert in Roma in 2024 (unfortunately for some reasons I missed his 2006 concert in Venezia and especially the Pompei concert in 2016, almost bought the ticket for the last one).
My favourite albums are 1) Wish you were here 2) Dark side of the moon 3) The Division Bell. I know that many floydians don’t agree with the last one, but for me The Division Bell is a great album and in the post Waters era I’m much more a fan of the Gilmour’s work both with PF and his solo albums than the Waters’ work, for many reasons.
I also think that the Richard Wright’s contribute has always been extremely underrated: anyway their best works are when all the three composers, Waters, Gilmour and Wright, worked together,Guido

It would be hard to pick my favorite Floyd Song, but Echoes would probably win. Masterpiece.
Here’s the isolated vocals by David and Richard. Such a beautiful melody and harmony.Ralph
