There is an art form called “floral art”, which has nothing to do with flower arranging. It is basically making sculptures out of plant material – leaves, moss, bark, branches, and even flowers. My wife has been a member of the NZ Floral Art Society for years, and recently they had their Designer of the Year contest. The floral artists in New Zealand never cease to amaze me with their creativity. This year each club team was given a mannequin to dress with clothes made entirely (well, mostly) from plant material. My wife’s team won 1st place…yay! Among other things, they spent weeks scouring the countryside to collect a certain type of large tree leaves, then dried them and dyed them various shades of purple. I made the video (using only my iPhone) and the original soundtrack (using my guitar, synth, and electronic drum kit), but that was nothing compared to the thousands of hours it took to make these amazing works of art. Check it out.
