Anyone else using Amplitube 3?
I downloaded the free version this evening and finally got it working. I’m using a Line 6 Guitar Port as my input and it took a while to get it to recognize it properly. I’m sure with the Stealth Plug, there would have been no problem.
Sounded OK – I have 40 wpc integrated amp that was made by Samson as a desktop monitoring system. The Samson sounds good on audio playback. With the Amplitube, it sounded good but wasn’t a WOW moment for me. Reminded me of the days when I had the Fender Mustang iii amp.
I do think that the Amplitube had a better clean sound than the Fender did but that’s just me.
Bottom line, I will still be using my tube amp for most of practice and playing.

Hi Keith
I think I may give it a try, for quick recording and playing with a headset so I don’t piss the neighbours off this may work. Tried a few things over the years. Last was a Vox Tone Lab. They all seem like toys compared to a real amp. I never realy wanted to have the option of sounding like a bunch of different players even when I did cover gigs. Rather have one sound that does what I want.
Keep us informed of how it works outThanks Gordo

I think that it would be really good for the apps that you mentioned. The free version comes with a Fender Twin model, several different cabs and 6-7 stomp boxes – enough to lay down a decent track. With the Fender Mustang, it didn’t take long to realize that you could easily spend more time tweaking your sound than playing and there were enough effects that it bordered on the ridiculous
I’ll have to try it with headphones, which would be handy if I’m traveling and want to take a guitar with me. I’m fortunate to have a room that is situated in an area of my lot that I don’t have any concerns of bothering the neighbors. I was blessed with a detached garage that has more square footage than my house. Yes folks you read it right. Since my son is a drummer, we built a room in the garage for music and everyone is happy happy happy

Hey all,
Here is my two cents. First my situation, i live in an apt and although i have a couple of amps on my wish list other than the little Vox AC4TV which can dial down to a quarter watt everything else is just two much volume and as a beginner i am not planing on playing any venues in the foreseeable future. so i started looking at all the computer modeling software out there. Here is what i have tried so far and my humble opinion.
I have a Epiphone ultra 3 Les Paul which was a interesting concept as it had a built in USB port, this is useless unless you plan on keeping extremely still, USB was never meant as a locking type of connection and every time you move the guitar (vibrato) even a little bit the usb comes loose and falls out. I have also tried a couple of the after market 1/4 inch to usb cables which although the interface is more reliable they all have their issues, for starters for some reason they put a little LED flashing light on them to let you know that the interface is working but you can hear a slight beeping in time with the light, they are also very glitchy (that’s a technical term).
I have tried, Vox’s Jamvox , Native instruments Guitar rig, Line 6’s POD farm and the IK mutimedia’s Amplitude3. Of all i think the Amplitude 3 far surpasses the other three in features, quality of amp models and effects box’s.
First Guitar Rig although has lots of features they didn’t do any licencing deals with the original manufacturers so all their stuff is named with weird cutesy names that doesn’t really tell you what exactly they are modeling. With a little bit of work you can figure it out but for the beginner doesn’t really help you out. Also if you want an interface to connect the guitar to the computer theirs in pricey.
Jamvox is better with the naming as most of their models are vox amps , has the ability to add an mp3 track to play along with but their effects box’s are limited and they do not offer any type of external connection box that i know about. Not bad but close.
Line 6 POD has a huge list of amp models and effects naming is still a bit weird but it was my favorite as far as sound reproduction goes, they are very big in artist / song naming of presets to give you the tone for a specific song but i agree with Gordo its tone you are looking for not artist/song name as there are so many more variables to that equation. Also they have no way of playing an audio track so you can play along. Line 6 does offer an outside interface but the ones i saw seem to be redundant in that they also give you all these effects and models.
Finally my new favorite is The Amplitube 3. Naming is the actual manufacturer names and model names and numbers, their sounds are great, there are a ton of effects and even where they name them generically they reference it to what it was modeled from. you can add audio files to play along with that you can adjust tempo, pitch independently. You can record up to 4 tracks. And to me the best feature if you do get an amp in the future it allows you to bypass the amp and cabinet and just use the effects with your own amp. They offer a wah pedal like device which is their version of the external connection device. which is reasonably priced (i have seen it online for about 180 – 190 US) you plug guitar into it 1/4 inch . from it to computer with USB, and it also gives you outputs for connection to self powered speakers (which is key for sound , computer speakers just don’t cut it).
There are ton of presets that are named for types of tone rather than artist so clean, crunch and so on which for me gives me a good understanding of how to setup an amp to get the tones i want and then i adjust from there. And finally, with all these software packages you want to make sure you play through a PA type speaker and not an Amp or cabinet as you don’t want to re-color the sound once it comes out of the computer. But again for me this gives me the ability to play with different tones but also control the volume to an apartment friendly level.
Cheers!

Keith or anyone else, can you do a photo of the Amplitube 3, I’d like to see if it is the same one I have. Thanks
I’m pretty sure I have the full version.I think it has 31 amps and and 46 cabs. I also have the Amplitube Fender setup also. My problem is, it makes too much noise, so I haven’t really learned how to use them. The hissing sound I need to get rid of. Tried lowering the volume and gain, but… still bad. I’m working on win Xp, does that have anything to do with it? Thanks

It really is all about ”melody”. The melody comes from a language from our heart. Our heart is the muscle in music harmony. The melody is the sweetness that it pumps into our musical thoughts on the fretboard. 🙂 6 stringer Pete

Hi Larry. Thanks for the pictures. Mine is the same. I now notice that my screen does not allow the whole Amplitube to show up. The bottom of the amp does not show, the slides for volume and other stuff. Is there a way to correct it. Thanks.
Pete

You need to increase the resolution of your desktop. If you have it at 1024 x whatever try and change it to something higher. It annoys the hell out of me when they write software that doesn’t allow you to change the window size. They assume that everyone has a high rez screen.

OK, not sure if I can do it, but… I’ll ask around and see it I can get some help.
By the way, do you have Guitar Rig 5? I’ve got it, but never fooled around with it because that too, produces too much hiss. Not sure what the problem is. Really has stopped me from learning all this.

To change your monitor’s resolution
Right-click the desktop, and then click Properties.
In the Display Properties dialog box, click the Settings tab.
Move the Screen resolution slider to the left to decrease the resolution of your monitor, making text and pictures appear larger. Or move the Screen resolution slider to the right to increase your monitor’s resolution, making text and pictures appear smaller.
Click Apply to have the new resolution take effect.
If the Monitor Settings dialog box appears, look at your display. If you like the new resolution, click Yes. If you do not like the resolution, click No, and return to step 3 to try a different resolution.
Click OK.
And with Guitar rig there are presets that are extremely noisey and distorted. but i think that also is more of a gain setting within the program, there are amps that do sound nice but again i like the A3 so much better i havent played with the others anymore.

Hi Gordo
When they show up on my screen amplitube hisses, and the full program does not show up. So I really couldn’t use it at all. So today I just deleted it from my computer. I Still have Fender and Peavey amps on my computer and that is fine. I’ll need to try out this stuff in a bit and see if I don’t get any noise. Computers, I don’t know the first thing about them and all my stuff is in Japanese including all the software that comes with the computer and sometimes many downloads, but sometimes they have a language change. I’ll keep you informed what happens today. The melody of the notes is what expresses the art of music . 🙂 6stringerPete

Larry I did what you said (well I had someone do it) it was no use. I just deleted the program/amps. I have Fender and Peavey amps on my computer and a sh… load of stuff on Reaper. Oh, well, that’s life. But thanks for your help.
