Right then, finally got some time to sit down and put something together for this months challenge. Didn’t know where to begin seeing as Brian gave us a free improvisation choice. So, I had to dig out a chart to show me where the G major patterns where on the fret board, I decided to try keep this as simple as possible, so stuck to 6 notes in position 4(I think) and I don’t know where this melody came from, it just played me other than me playin it..
I hope you like it, sadly its all I have and don’t know how to embellish this as it didn’t sound right with bends....Billy..

I suggest from now on you always let them pieces play you rather than vice versa, lol – cause it worked very well here. Really good clean playing, Billy and a pleasant listen. I heard nothing that sounded out of place or wrong, nor was anything missing.

I’d say you’re onto something here Billy, it’s the start of a cool melody.

Hey Billy, more often than not simplicity outweighs all the complications we deal with on a daily basis. In this case, as simple as it may have seemed to you, this melody certainly caught my attention. You played it beautifully!

True improvisation. The best kind. Great to be able to just let it flow and come out as nice as this.

Less is more so speed simplicity shouldn’t be a factor it’s how you play it
I think a few harmonised doubles in the piece would have really taken it up a notch.
Overall a nice effort

Very harmonious, well done.
Play guitar just like you live; don't get bogged down in theory, it's just a tool without feeling.

Hey Billy, that had a nice relaxing flow to it, enjoyed listening…the volume was a little low, at least on my end, maybe a recording issue?

Well done Billy, a better guitarist now than you were a year ago. You’re also listening to the chord changes rather well and your improvisation fits nicely. Volume was a bit low but luckily I’ve got a volume dial on my amp so was able to hear it loud and clear. The trouble is the next track I listened to blasted my ear drums!!
Thank you for everything.

Elegantly simple. That’s the best kind of improv, to my ears. It’s also really fun to noodle around as you have done and just create the melody that comes into your head. As Martyn has said, perhaps you could figure out a way to get the volume a little louder.

Billy, it stood out so well and sounded good because it wasn’t complicated. The pauses you gave it worked really well, contrary to what you were expecting, that was a great listen.

Nice mellow melody, Billy! Nothing better for a vanishing sunday! 4 minutes of improv is really something, great job!
By the way, it’s the first selfie made by a seal !?

Now, I should lower the volume, I cranked it up to 12 for listening to your tune!!! -

Thanks everyone for taking the time out to listen and comment, My apologies for the recording levels. there seemed to be something of a clash between my p.c. which was updating as I recorded to reaper..( though possibly some of you might need to tweak the vol on your hearing aids..hahahaha)

Everything you played fit the progression very well. It was an original piece that sounds quite relaxing. I really enjoyed it.

Great job, Billy. A really sweet sound and attractive melodic ideas that seemed totally appropriate to the mood and feel of the original and the backing track. I also enjoyed the restraint in your improv – it seems less is often more! I hope we hear your playing regularly in the future.

Sounding excellent, Billy. You are a man of the melody. One can tell that you must listen to a lot of music. With the ability you have already, you could do this forever on the guitar, coming up with these catchy melodies.

Thank you to all for the great comments and for taking the time out to listen to my challenge response, We keep mentioning on here about some of Brian’s lessons as being “Classics”, I honestly think some of his backing tracks should be look on in the same way.
I mean just look at the variations dreamed/concocted up by all you wonderful AM’ers on this months challenge, ” if only I could play half as good as you”...Billy..

Hi Billy.
Not easy to impro (real impro) this like you did. Well done. I would also suggest you more volume to your guitar.

Hey Billy, that’s great that you were able to pull up a scale sheet for the key of the song and write your own simple melody like that. it just shows that you have a well developed ear.. knowing which notes to resolve on. Continue pushing yourself with it and try harmonized 3rd and 6th harmonies

Thanks Brian, I will take your advice on board and settle down with this as an add to piece, once work is done though, don’t want to be boring my customers..
