How many people here have Delta Acoustic Blues as their primary playing focus? I am considering joining but don’t need the electric lessons. I don’t have an electric guitar. I am considering several other online lesson subscription groups along with Active Melody. I would appreciate any positive or negative feedback. Thank you. B.J. Indiana

It’s not my primary focus, but I love delta blues and would love to learn more.

Jaime. Are you a full Active Melody subscriber? I’m trying to determine if it is where I want to be. I’m considering a number of online options and money and time restrictions can only focus on one. Thanks. B.J.

Yes I am a full AM subscriber, and I’m super happy with the lessons. There are new lessons each week and it’s good stuff, original compositions in each one where you put theory into practice. I’ve tried many online courses and to me, this is the best one.
I recommend that you check the published lessons (almost 400 now!) and decide for yourself if this is the kind of content you want to learn.

Hi B.J.T,
There are a few (that I know from the Forum) long-time Premium members who play nothing but acoustic Delta or Piedmont blues here. One of them is Lights, whose interest is exactly only that and he has become really good at it.
The beauty of Active Melody Premium membership is that you get what YOU want out of it. There are more acoustic blues guitar lessons here that you could learn in years but I wouldn’t dismiss all the other lessons so quickly either. Many of them can be easily adapted to acoustic guitar and there are tips and takeaways in each lesson that you can apply to different styles of playing.
If following tabs and memorizing songs is what you want, you could do it here BUT Brian’s teaching method gives you way more than that. “Learn to PLAY, not memorize” is the ultimate goal of his approach and whether you plan on it or not, over time you will realize the freedom it gives you and the possibilities it opens.
But of course, only YOU know exactly what you’re looking for and I wish you good luck in finding it. It is highly unlikely to hear any negativity here especially from Premium members. We’re here because we LOVE it and we play anything from classical guitar, acoustic Delta blues, Ragtime, Country, Rock and anything in between.

Thanks to you guys who have replied! I hope you will get to see this. With the price and what is offered AM should be a no-brainer. Stil, i’m considering a few other subscription lessons (one is on sale for a short time) and the other is totally acoustic and I really like the guy’s videos (but am not sure of his blues content) and his price is the highest of all. I’ll have a couple of weeks before I click the Pay Pal so we’ll see but AM is definitely in there. I’ll be checking Brian’s videos closely.
I hadn’t mentioned myself. I’m 62, played drums for nearly 50 years. I also putter at blues harmonica.
I know a huge number of “cowboy chords”, a few barres, a couple of blues scales, and pentatonics. I know the basics of the Nashville System, and a little theory. However, I am not able to play a song. I can strum for hours, improvising chord progressions that sound good but as far as playing songs from record or radio? Nope. Just don’t get it.One other thing. Does Brian have any bass lessons? I bought a decent bass on a Musician’s Friend “Stupid Deal” a few years ago (mainly because I have a great Hartke bass amp from my Yamaha drums) and for some reason thought I could learn. Well, I can count on one hand the number of times i’ve actually picked the bass up. I’m scared of it, absolutely do not understand it.
Thanks again for replying. Your feedback is great!

There are many acoustic blues lessons here on AM. Delta Blues is just acoustic blues. Look at how different the style of John Lee Hooker is from Muddy Waters. Or Robert Johnson. Blues is blues. If I sign up for a one-on-one guitar lesson here in my city, it will cost almost the same as a year’s subscription to AM. What is there to ponder?

Hi BJT. I don’t think you can go wrong. Try a monthly sub for a few months and I reckon you’ll be upgrading in no time. All the best with your decision.
