Hi there! I’m looking for some advice. I’m new to the active melody community. I’ve been playing on and off for around 12 years. I never took any lessons, so being self taught I am looking to get a better understanding of the instrument I love to play. I recently joined a band as a lead guitar player and am looking to gain knowledge of the best way to accompany a rhythm player and learn how to improvise along the way. I know the basics, pentatonic scale, barre chords, some triad shapes, but that’s it. There is so much content here that it’s tough to know where to start. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

        Cheers!
        Mike

Hi Mike, take a look at EP419. It that the type of thing you’re looking for?
For lead guitar, there are so many to choose from. I would suggest going to the Weekly Lessons page and using the search categories for Arpeggios, Lead Guitar Lessons, Major Pentatonic Scale, Rhythm and Lead Combined, etc. You can preview what each lesson sounds like right on that page and pick a few that you like. Jump in, start learning, and have fun. You’ll see that the principles and ideas Brian teaches get repeated and reinforced through many lessons. Great to have you here!

You didn’t mention what genre of music your band plays. If it’s rock, for example, I would go to the Weekly Lessons page and do a search for “Rock”. Every lesson will include some useful licks and styles.
