How To Play Wind Cries Mary on Guitar - Jimi Hendrix (EP012)

In this guitar lesson, I'll show you how to play the classic, "Wind Cries Mary" by Jimi Hendrix on electric guitar. Although Hendrix played this on an electric, you could easily play the rhythm part on both electric and acoustic guitars. I've also included the country-twang solo that he played. Most people don't think of Hendrix as playing anything remotely close to country and for the most part that's true (he's definitely more blues-based), however every now and then he'll work in pedal-steel sounding licks and the solo in Wind Cries Mary is a perfect demonstration of that style. This lesson is intended for beginner, intermediate, or advanced players, there's something in it for everyone - so even if you're just getting started, try learning this one!

I learned a simpler version of this years ago but the way you’re teaching this really clears it all up to the point that with a little practice I can make this sound good.  I just found you a few weeks ago and I’m so glad I signed on.  I’m on your site almost everyday. I really appreciate what you are doing for people like me that love the guitar

Great lesson as usual!!!  I agree with Mike’s comment.  This clears things up a lot from the simple version I learned also

    Hi Brian,

For “How to ...” lessons is there any way to have also the tabulature?

Thanks in advance for your reply.

@ValentinRoz - unfortunately I can’t for copyrighted songs.. I can only show you how to play them via video.

I so much enjoy how Brian slows everything down, rarely do I need the tab for his video instructions.I learned over the years that there is no better way than having an instructor teach stuff like this because it is all “feel” and so just by his words, I’m more adapted picking up even easy stuff like this.. Brian, great job with this Jimmy tune, thanks again!

Crickey Brian, I signed up for lessons with the intention of buying into the blues course this weekend ( that will happen but not just yet I think), but whoa my head is spinning just trying to overcome all the challenges you put up on your free lessons.
Just had a go at the “Keef” lesson from June 2010, thanks heaps for your extraordinary commitment it is something I have rarely seen among musicians and teachers who in my experience are either too shy to believe they can share their art or too frightened to give it away free for some reason. Keep it up mate you are a Rock Star to be sure. Thanks.

You are making many people in the world very happy. Thank you for sharing your wonderful gift of music. I wish I had a way to repay you. You’re the best guitar teacher I have ever come across. God bless

I’d just like to second Osoloony’s post.

Thanks Brian for spelling it all out so well…was doing the 3 note solo lesson at the weekend and my (usually dismissive) wife stuck her head round the door and said, ‘Bloody hell!  Was that actually YOU? That sounded great’
