Hey folks, I’m back in business! To get things rolling again I thought it would be good to start with a shuffle blues rhythm guitar lesson. This lesson isn’t really “in the style of” any particular artist, but is a type of rhythm I often find myself using when playing rhythm. The nice thing about a rhythm like this is that it works really well on either an acoustic guitar or an electric and sounds good played either fast or slow. I have no idea who this in inspired by, probably a combination of artists. This is intended for intermediate and up players.. so if you’d just picked up a guitar, you’ll probably want to stay away from this lesson until you become a little more comfortable with basic strum patterns.

haha, the guy from Big Bang Theory, you mean the guy that played Darlene’s boyfriend on Roseanne?

Grande Brian la tua passione è contagiosa e per chi ama il blues e strimpella la chitarra tu sei un ottimo insegnante : pochi fronzoli e spacconate ma solo perle da raccogliere . Grazie Bluesman

Hey Brian,
Glad you’re covering some great rhythum patterns. Looking forward to seeing more perhaps with an A string root.
Hope you’re playing out. You’ve got excellent style.
chrisco
Hey Brian,
Its great to see you back in Europe! Was beginning to worry there was something wrong with you. It is remarkable how I found the lessons so hard to start with and now I can pick the stuff up so much more quickly. It proves your method of teaching works!!!! Thanks for this great rhythmn lesson. Can’t wait for some more.
How’s the new job going?
Dr Golf
Glad to see U’r still kicking, how’s Hidaway comming on?
Thank’s for this one,and all the rest…TY Bro..

Barring the A chord!!! So awesome, thank you. If I learn nothing else from this video, that will have been enough. The a-chord has vexed me for a while now. (Fat Fingers) LOL
@zbignu - glad that barring the A chord came in handy for you. I’m always amazed and what people get from these lessons… it’s usually never what I think.. I say that in a good way, that’s what keeps me jazzed about making them!

Thank you soooo much for this - it has unlocked the door to something that was previously unfathomable for me! It sounds so cooool!
ur doing an awesome job there brian, keep it up please?... My guitar teacher even uses some of your material for teaching… Again awesome job, you’re awesome lol ;D

Beginner intermediat guitarist interested in blues and very happy to discover active melody. Studying Blues Rythem in E and I’m getting it. My instructor was impressed too. Thanks.

Soy un novato guitarrista de blues. Gracias Brian por tu fácil manera de explicar. Tengo casi 60 años y empiezo a disfrutar de la guitarra.
I am a novice quitarrista blues. Thanks Brian for your easy to explain.
I have almost 60 years and start enjoying the guitar.

Just got back into playing the guitar after about 5 years .... Thanks mate for sharing your knowledge, its greatly appreciated.. I love this blues rhythm , it is really fun and interesting… thanks again.

Brian,
Of all the “web instructors” you are by far the best!
Thank you Brian!! You posting these great videos here is an amazing resource. Ive only been playing for 5 months so most of your lessons are over my head. Im past your “beginners guitar course” but not up to speed of most of your rhythm or lead lessons. Could you PLEASE post some new, beginner videos? Your teaching style, camera and method works GREAT! Thanks again!

Brian, stumbled across your lessons and love the fsct there are free and simple to follow.
cheers

How about solo blues guitar lesson. I’m interested in that. Then I can play it all by myself.
Hey Brian,
This is really cool. I did this lesson some time ago when I was just starting on the site and thought I would review it. Turns out I got it so wrong the first time and yet it was still a great rhythm to play instead of the power chords. SO, now I’ve got it right this time I have two versions and obviously it has stimulated me to try different variations. Very liberating!
A very happy New Year to you,
Dr Golf

You rock Brain. By the way love the Gibson. I have the Epiphone version. I’ve been looking for lessons played on a 335 that’s how I found you.
Do you have any lessons more in the Classic Rock genre? I would really be interested.

hi bryan, just found your web sites about a week ago, realy great & am learning lots, thanks, i used to play in a rock band in england but now living in cyprus, realy do miss the band, so thanks again, another, bryan
Bryan, so how often do folks misspell your name and just assume it’s with an “I”?

You guys that pick on Brian are low life loosers—does it make you feel superior to call him names and make fun of HIM—If it does then you are the ones that feel inadequate—get a life
@Lisle, Low self esteem causes self control issues. They probably troll for this type of thing.
Keep up the good work Brian.

New here ,learning rhythm and blues, wish i can play like you lol

Loved the Blues in E lesson. I made a boo-boo and click on the little ‘block’ tab on the lesson screen and can’t get you bacl. Help!
@Bosco -that’s what you get for blocking me! hah, I’m assuming you’re using Firefox browser as it lets you block content. I think you can go into Tools / options section to unblock sites that you’ve blocked.. but even easier, just download Google Chrome (it’s free).. then you should be ok.
@Bytor1958 - Yes lots of Artist series - the next one will be Albert Collins.. was going to have it out this week but I am TOTALLY slammed with my “real” job this week. Expect something over the weekend though
Hi Brian,
Albert Collins is one of my favorites BUT to get the “Ice pick” sound he tuned to a minor key and used a capo. Robert Cray always said that it was a nightmare to get Albert’s sound until he realised that he used a different tuning.
Can you achieve that “sound” with EADGBE or will we need to use Albert’s approach. It would be great to get some Tele sounds like him as he was so distinctive and you knew it was him as soon as the track started. I have a video that was taken, maybe, twenty years ago, in Germany, of Albert playing a set with his band and it is brilliant. Sadly, I don’t have a video player anymore so can’t watch it.
All the best and looking forward to the lesson. Incidentally, there are a number of the internet “tutors” who are trying to copy your way of teaching which is a feather in your cap. Well done.
Andrew
