How many remember the King Biscuit Flower Hour? Weekend radio program in the early days of FM radio. Many bands got the publicity they needed by being spotlighted on this show.
This is a concert by Humble Pie from around 1969/1970 period. Fast Fwd to the 22:39 mark for a great blues rock tune. Steve Marriott was a great singer and player. He was with the Small Faces just before the time that Rod Stewart was singing for them.
Humble Pie was not a polished band by any stretch of the imagination but had rough edged sound of a garage band. Love it!!!!
Its interesting to find video of the time period that Frampton and Steve were in the band together.
I DONT REMEMBER LISTINING TO IT BUT i HAVE HEARD THE NAME, there was a radio station on AM that we listened to in Des Moines Ia the station was from little rock AR on Sunday nights called beaker street
Interesting that you mentioned the radio station in Des Moines. I grew up in southern Ohio and had an Arvin transistor radio that was about the size of cassette Walkman. Boasted having 6 transistors and used 9v J size battery.
I would listen to WCFL and WLS in Chicago in the evenings, sometimes WOWO in Ft Wayne Ind. By morning, those station didn’t come in any longer but I was able to get a station from Des Moines - until the sun started coming up. It would slowly fade out and if I listened during the day, it was limited to 2-3 local AM stations that would barely come in.
Sun down - start the process all over again.
My dad used to talk about the ‘good old days’..... not me in the area of music, mp3 player versus an AM radio.
Is it obvious that I’m a product of the 60s?
the station was from little rock Arkansas we were in Des Moines listening to it. it was an AM station then, its gone now
they started it every sunday night with house of the rising sun by the animals
I haven’t heard about The King Biscuit Flower Hour is ages. I miss the old shows. I also remember Wolfman Jack in the 1960’s. In Fresno, California he would come on AM about 10 pm at night. The 60’s and 70’s were a great time for music on AM and FM radio. Thank you for sharing this.
