Oh man, once you get used to playing resonator blues you’ll be addicted. I’ve played resonator for years (a National), but it takes some getting used to. I’d recommend learning blues slide guitar on a standard acoustic first (or at least getting started with it). Obviously the resonator gives you a completely different tone, but the same fingerings apply. You’ll want to make sure that you’re tuned to an open chord too - that’s key (although there are some great slide players that play in open tuning - Duane Alman was great at it). Start listening and trying to copy guys like Elmore James or Son House, they aren’t THAT difficult and you’ll notice they tend to use the same licks over and over again (which is helpful for a beginner!).
When you do decide to get one, you might want to start with a Dobro brand first (good price and sound great). As you can tell, I’m all about baby stepping into something, but that’s just me.
