Every couple of months I bust out his CD’s for inspiration.  I know most posts on here are about blues, but when you hear greatness, no matter what genre, you can’t help but say WOW!

If you’ve never heard grant’s genius on the fret board here’s a sampling:

Joshua Fit De The Battle Of Jericho

Cantaloup Women

Sookie Sookie

idle Moments

Ok, ok, now back to the blues…a Little Willie John Song by the late great GM:

I LOVE me some Idle Moments, I would recommend the track ‘Jean De Fluer’. But if we are talking Grant Green albums I would gravitate to Matador and the Complete Quartets with Sonny Clark.

Yeah, Grant could definitely travel 100 mph in the slow lane.  I’ve only found one video of him ever.  It’s him playing with Kessel & Burrell on a legends of jazz DVD

Another amazing guitarist is Pat Martino.  If you don’t know about him he was the house guitarist in a famous jazz club in NYC.  There’s a great video of George Benson talking about the first time he heard Martiono

The amazing thing about Martino is he had a brain aneurysm which resulted him loosing a portion of his memory…and part of that was how to play guitar.  He had to reteach himself how to play and I think he’s as good if not better then he ever was.

Here’s a video of Pat Martino playing Sunny with Scofield.  Scofield even stops playing to watch.  That’s not a bad camera, just his speed blurring it out!  Man, talk about using the whole fret board and all the strings!

He’s got a bunch of instructional DVD’s out there some of which are on YouTube, but he’s is so advanced & fast that when he explains & demonstrates I’m like, “WHAT!?”
