It's definitely better to be accurate before learning to play fast - speed is something that comes over time - but definitely shouldn't be an initial goal. Just try to get the lick down first, then over time you can gradually increase the tempo.
This is great advice Brian. If there's one thing I've learned over the years, it is important to play a piece slow enough to be accurate so that your fingers (muscle memory) learn it correctly. Once your fingers have it, you can work on speeding it up.
