Well I’m really an old newbie, and I do mean old, 74 years next month. Found this site by complete accident, and I reckon it’s the best I’ve seen. and I’ve seen quite a few, I started to try and learn Guitar when I was 17, but something else came up, speedway racing, this was the downfall of learning Guitar, it was sold. About 18 months ago I got really keen again, don’t know what inspired this now, but having always considered the electric guitar as number one of musical instruments I thought I’ll have another try before I finish permanently horizontal, and I’m still struggling, but Brian’s 3 note lesson has inspired me more than previous months, the way he makes music out of three notes has got me back again. My skill at guitar would be out of ten a 1, I could be bragging here, all I can do is 4 chords, by the time I change from one to the next the timing has gone down in flames, I find it easier to play single notes, just need to get up to speed, I enjoy string bends, and find that adds so much more to guitar playing, so I’ll be sticking with that 3 note melody, I’ll be so happy if I can only get that sounding reasonably good, just wish those strings were further apart, ( joke )

Stick with that guitar playing people, time goes by quicker that you imagine.

                                                                                                                                   Vahn.

I have a squire m80 guitar which has two humbucker pickups (3 position switch) and 4 control knows - 2 volume and 2 tone.

I can get a variety of different sounds with this but can’t work out how the controls work. I originally thought that the 2 volume controls were for each pickup but that does not seem to be the case. One volume seems to be for the front pickup and the other is a volume for both - or maybe not!!! The tone switches are equally confusing.

Their function also seems to change if the volume on the amp is turned up

Can anyone throw any light on this?

Thanks, Alan

I picked up a used strat copy yesterday. Threw some new strings on it and cleaned it up a little. Adjusted intonation (which I may have some questions about later), and adjusted pick up height. Sounds pretty clean. Neck seems to be a tad bit under bowed, so I’m going to look into that. So far all of what I have done is for the first time for me, that’s why I’ll be asking some questions about intonation holding where it’s set. Will try and ad some pics later. It’s a cherry sunburst color with two humbuckers bridge/neck and a single coil in the center.

So Gifted Group of Guitar Greatness :

Who moves you Blues wise ?

Is it early steel string acoustic like :

Robert Johnson - Lonnie Johnson - Eddie Lang :

The above 3 reflect quite a spectrum of talent .

Robert Johnson steeped deep into raw emotion - The changer from country sound themes to urban - Perfecting for others the future of Rock-N-Roll .

Lonnie Johnson :

bridged Blues and Jazz and maybe POP too with his light hearted and fast tempos

Eddie Lang :

Smooth and in many was a SmoothJazz-er long before that kind of term was ever thought of .

Or is it the likes of :

T-bone Walker - Muddy Waters - Albert King - Charlie Christian - Wes Montgomery - B . B . King :

T-Bone :

Stormy Monday - - says it all - Blues and essences of Jazz & B-Bop

Muddy Waters :

Took off into urban Blues big time in Chicago as is noted about his style and this quote in the Movie Crossroad with the Karate Kid -

" Didn't you know Muddy Waters vented lectricity " yep he put the spark into the Blues big time .

Albert King :

This guy was mad at the music scene and left it for years driving construction caterpillars and then he jumped off in his 40's and ripped out " Born Under A Bad Sign " and the Blues was given a booster shot big time with the UK Blues artists who shot off into infinity . Groups like The Stones - John Mayal - The Yardbirds - Cream took rock by storm with songs written by Muddy Waters - Albert King - and the greatest Blues song writer ever " Willie Dixon " .

Wes Montgomery and Charlie Christian are not considered Blues but they are with a Jazzy approach and legends in style and innovation all attributed in part to their Blues roots .

B . B . King :

WOW - - - - - - - You can fill in the blank - no need to elaborate here on this giant .

There are more of course like Son House - Lead Belly - and others who's songs of emotional content would set anyone's mind ablaze with the ideas these songs popped into your head , but not their " guitar chops " as far as individual lead melody lines and how they ( the other besides these guys ) made your gut wrench and your body move to the rhythms the popped along with the melody and the powerfully structured was they played lead line .

So - - Who's got your juices going of late and in the past with The Blues ?

Sincerely :
