guitar lesson blog

Hey folks, a lot going on here at ActiveMelody headquarters (my basement).  As many of you know I’ve had membership to the site be completely free up until this point and it was my full intent to keep it that way, making the majority of the lessons free (while occasionally making a premium lesson to offset some of the costs).  Well, the good news is that the site continues to grow and has definitely blown away my expectations in terms of general interest.  The downside is that my monthly bandwidth costs continue to rise as well, so to counteract that, I’ve decided to keep the videos and basic membership free as always, but if you want to download the jam tracks or tablature you’ll have to get a “premium membership”.  I’m only charging a one-time fee of $5, so no monthly subscriptions or anything.  Hopefully that won’t break the bank for anyone, and will allow me to make a little extra spending money on the side.

I realize that several of the videos on YouTube state that the lessons assets were 100% free, and I apologize if you were misled.  They WERE free for nearly two years, honest!

I’m cool with that!  You have a great site and I have really been enjoying your lessons. Keep your bandwidth strong! Looking forward to the premium lesson you have been working on. Thanks again for sharing your knowledge and talent with us! Brett

I have no problemo helping support your work, but where do I go to contribute?

Hi Brian,
I’m new to your site anyway so never had the everything for free offer.  The quality of what you offer is well worth the very small amount you’re charging.  Please keep the good work coming.

Have you ever considered doing an “Artist” video of Peter Green’s style? Some of his lesser known stuff deserves an airing by a competent teacher/guitarist. Something like “A Fool No More” from Peter Green’s Fleetwood Mac Live At the BBC Disc 2 would be a great one.  I realise because of copyright it can’t be a note for note transcription.
Regards
Dave

Dave, you’re not the first to suggest a Pete Green style lesson - will add that one to the list!

Hey Brian

$5 is nothing compared to what you provide us.

I can’t count the number of times I watched and played your lead and rhythm video.  Several weeks ago I spent probably 10 hours during the weekend watching it again and again and playing to it.

Had I been taking lessons, I am sure I would of forgotten 1/2 of what my instructor taught me by the time I got home.

One of Canada’s largest music store chains is across the street from my condominium.  They charge $22 for a 1/2 hour lesson.

You have saved me big $ and provided a premium service and “tuned” to what I was really looking for.

I’ve been up for days waiting for your new lesson wink  Can’t wait to get my hands on it.

Cheers,

Jim

PS I took your advice and looked at the Made in Mexico Stratocasters.  I looked at a Arctic White compared to a USA made model.  There was not a lot of difference.  The sales guy was fantastic and told me to be careful of the necks and to look for a “flat” neck which makes it easier to bend strings instead of an old style with a bit of a “C” in it.  I told him all about Active Melody.

I just got home and purchased it.  Looks great and is more than I expected.

Thanks for all of your work on this.

Cheers

Jim

More than happy to pay $5 - but where do I pay it?
I know it’s probably staring me in the face, but I can’t see a ‘Pay Here’ notice.

Me too…
I still don’t see where to leave the $5.oo

OK, I know I seriously need to make the premium $5 payment thing more obvious.  Just go into one of the guitar lessons and click on one of the blue buttons for tab or jam track above the video, it will then prompt you to become a premium member.

For example go to the Eric Clapton Guitar Lesson, and look above the video - you’ll see the blue buttons I’m referring to.

Hopefully that clears it up for everyone for now - until I can redesign things.

Brian, thanks so much for the lessons, I really love the rhythm stuff you have out there.  I am getting interested in Amos Garrett & Steve Cropper, I love the sophisticated progressions of their rhythms, and the simplicity of how they do it!

thanks again,

martinwinder

Five bucks is a splash in the pond. Good job with the site. Thanks for your contributions. I’m just a beginner here, and your material is sure helping me get started out. I plan on going to regular lessons locally, but I wanted to spare talented instuctors the pain and agony of teaching a forty year old the basics like When The Saints Go Marching In, and notes on the frets, and basic cords. Not to mention paying $17 for half hour lesson to learn something I can surely teach myself with the right resources. I was happy to put my five in, like this   smile

Five bucks is nothing.  Gladly send that.  I just revived my ‘69 Fender Villager 12 string.  I got it in ‘74 and have not played for many years.  I took it in to the shop and had life restored to it’s heart smile

Man, it rings so nicely, anyway….

I just found your site and looked at a few videos then I found the reggae video and fell in love with ActiveMelody.  I know that you will help me resurrect my guitar playing over the next year or so…  smile

What I have seen is great.  I am very excited to get my guitar back to working order and now with this site I am overjoyed at what will be possible.
Thanks man smile)
