5.8 D Minor Chord (Full Chord)

This Section Of The Beginner Guitar Course Covers The Following:


In this section you will learn to play the D minor full chord. To create the open position D minor chord use the following fingering:

  • First finger, first fret, first string
  • Middle finger, second fret, third string
  • Third finger, third fret, second string
  • Strum top 4 strings (excluding the 5th and 6th strings)


The first and middle fingers should be close to the fret. Strum highest (bottom) four strings, excluding the E and A. To switch between D major and D minor chords, move the first and second fingers, while the third finger remains in the same position.
