Playing lead guitar involves playing single string melodies with a guitar pick. Strumming is brushing a pick across multiple strings. Play downstrokes with upstrokes to get interesting rhythms. Picking down and picking up enables much faster playing. Fluidity results when picking down and up across multiple strings when playing lead parts.
