2.2 Overview of How Fretting Works

The metal strips that run down the neck of a guitar are called frets. To play a note you should put your finger just before the fret.
The forefinger should be arched when playing single notes and the tip of the finger should push down on the string. It is also possible to use the pad of the finger to play notes or the entire finger to play bars. Proper placement of the thumb and palm is also critical when playing guitar.
