In previous lessons we learned about alternate strumming – a series of down and up strokes on more than one string. In contrast, alternate picking is a series of down and up strokes on a single string. Speed and accuracy are the benefits of alternate picking. For this reason, playing lead parts requires mastery of alternate picking and can be used when playing from one string to another. The result is a fluid motion. Although alternate picking is a good choice for single strings, it can be difficult to create a consistent sound when using alternate picking across multiple strings
